When interacting with students in my student success role, I gather feedback by asking students specific questions like 'How can I better support you?' or something like 'What specific elements would you want us to include next time?' The use of surveys works, albeit, I recommend having fewer questions on there as this can significantly improve the response and engagement rates

Planning and building in time for people to act on feedback is an essential part of the feedback process that is usually missed. Ample time is required for meaningful work and change to start to evolve. Also linking feedback to people's motivations is crucial in getting them to see and appreciate 'what's in it for them'. People are more prone to act if they can identify personal prospects and growth opportunities for them.

Another important aspect of the feedback process is closing the feedback loop. It is vital that whilst feedback can be merely actioned, the most meaningful feedback occurs when the feedback loop is closed. Perhaps this can be achieved through informing others of the results of your research, or having a mindful conversation regarding the goals achieved with your supervisor. Closing the feedback loop inevitably allows for change to be attained, but can simultaneously highlight any gaps in progress or research.
