Setting the goals doesn't mean you have achieve the target by any how. It also means that you can check your each steps taken towards achieving goals. If you have taken any wrong step, that doesn't mean that you have lose the target/goal. It simply means you have to change that particular step.

Setting constant long/short-term goals is crucial for success, especially after a setback/failure. Learning from previous experience and outlining the further process should be the primary goal to overcome the failure. Setting small milestones in your road map makes it easier to evaluate your progress which further fuels self-motivation.

Goals are setting in order to setup our mind for a specific achievement. We set goals as a challenge to own self where we work hard to achieve such goals and every minor step you keep is the best achievement. Every step leads you to the destination that you wanted to go

One significant failure I reflect on is implementing a payroll process from paper to automation, but I didn't identify all the stakeholders. What I perceived as a quick win turned into a setback because I didn't map the process or understand how other departments were affected. Nor did I pause to weigh the pros and cons of moving quickly. As a result, the manual process was reinstated. From this I learned several valuable lessons. Most importantly, when starting a new role, avoid making big changes in the first 90 days. I also realized the importance of asking open-ended questions, particularly, "Who else should I talk to?" Taking the time to step back and ask questions would have saved my team and other departments a lot of frustration.

It is not really having a balance but an integration of what sustains your “why” you want to accomplish your goals and for whom do you accomplish it for versus your “what” you want to accomplish.
