Here's how you can infuse creativity into crafting innovative UX solutions for clients.

The most important aspect of every product are the users. You will learn more from just speaking with users than any research you or your team might conduct. The hardest thing that I had to unlearn was my preconceived notions of what the product needs to be in my head before conducting user interviews. You have to design your questions well and let the users answer no matter how minute it might seem at time. From there you want to create an empathy map, and preferably UX Personas to help guide you on your design journey.

The two ways to approach empathy is, one if you are a design student and if you are a professional designer. The first very common step for everyone is to get into the home of the user (the mind, instead of shoes) and remember you cannot know the whereabouts of someone's house until you ask a lot of questions. Empathy does not only require the user to do all the talking, it requires us to ask the right questions, to have answers which will ignite empathy. While a design student will just empathize with the user, a professional has to be an all-rounder empathizing with the end-user, the client requirement, the business requirement, the technical and legal requirement, and also a tinge of self-preferred designs!

Conduct Empathy Research: Use methods like interviews, ethnographic studies, and journey mapping to gain a deep understanding of users' needs, pain points, and behaviors. Create Detailed Personas: Develop comprehensive personas to represent different user groups and guide your design process.

Empathy in an organizational environment goes beyond the attributes of putting oneself in someone else's shoes or putting on a shirt. Empathy in an organizational environment involves synergy with peers, sensitivity to extract requirements from the customer, the business and the market. In this concept, having empathy is a soft skill valued beyond the world of Innovation and Creativity, it is important for all areas and organizations.

Do the research: surveys, behavioral analytics, interviews, contextual inquiry, and field observations. And then take it a step further: actually involve your target audience in the designing of the thing using simple prototypes and co-creative techniques. Test ideas on the fly and in the wild (aka in the actual context). Bring non-UX team members along to increase their own empathy and creativity. Do this over and over in small steps until you have your full end-to-end digital experience.

Through these years I have noticed that each designer has a different style of ideating and here is my piece of advise. BREAK THE BOUNDARIES. Suppose you are designing a website layout for an online medical store, no one has bounded you to take inspiration just from the existing medical apps. Cross or horizontal way of inspiration helps you to think from a unique and a broader perspective, it gives your mind an ability to push forth and think "That this can also be possible!" For eg: Getting inspired from the layout of Netflix web and inculcating it into the medical app. The mantra is ideating until you are satisfied and after each concept reflect, check the UX, think and move ahead to the next one. The tricky part is know when to stop!

Throughout my experience in both short and long projects, I have found that ideation sessions are crucial. It's during these sessions that new ideas and creativity come into play. We can use techniques like mind mapping, sketching, and other methods. These sessions also promote a collaborative approach that is diverse and inclusive. Even a little feedback in an ideation session can elevate UX and make every team member feel involved, which ultimately leads to better results. For example, during a recent personal project, when I was lacking creativity and ideas, I organized an informal coffee break with a friend to brainstorm and get his views. This approach worked well, and with his feedback, I created an awesome portfolio navigation.

When a fintech client approached me for a rebrand to a "hip, green look," I knew I needed to think outside the box. Team members scribbled ideas on leaf-shaped sticky notes, pinning them to potted plants. We used eco-friendly materials for mood boards and even brought in a local street artist to spark creativity. As ideas flowed, from neon green logos to app interfaces inspired by vertical gardens, we realized something crucial: this rebrand wasn't just about looking cool. It was about authenticity and responsibility in finance. Our wildest ideas led to thoughtful discussions about sustainable banking practices and transparency.

Keeping an open mind is incredibly important in ideation. There truly is NO RIGHT ANSWER. For anything! We are constantly changing both internally and externally. I love to open up deep ideation discussions with my team and leaders. I love asking questions and I love hearing questions. Creativity is truly unlocked and not something that is kept in a box. Ideation is the key. ?? ?

Organize brainstorming sessions where everyone can share creative ideas freely. In these meetings, any idea is welcome, and there's no judging. The goal is to come up with lots of different concepts that you can then improve and decide which ones work best. Use methods like drawing maps or sketches to help visualize ideas and get everyone involved. Working together like this can lead to new and unexpected solutions that could really improve your project.

Some of the most valuable insights often emerge from testing low-fidelity prototypes with real users. By guiding users through the product, we can observe their interactions, gather feedback, and anticipate potential issues that actual users might encounter. These changes can be incorporated before developing a high-fidelity prototype, ensuring a well-rounded experience for the final launch.

The main mantra is "Fail faster, to grow faster". As we make designs we fall in love with them, which avoids us to see the flaws in them. Testing has to be done at every stage rather than testing at the last. For learning purposes, elderly ones and your friends can be the best teachers for testing. One shall sit and observe not only how they interact with the product, but also make a note of their expressions and body language as they use it. Users help you to zoom out in your design and when you improve the results are unique and unimaginable. Lastly, a designer shall keep her ego at bay, and take in feedback and critiques like a sport. A combination of all these will help you grow faster, deeper, and wider!

Try testing your designs with real users early and often. This way, you can see what they think and make your designs better. Watch how users use your prototypes; it's really helpful to see how they react. Keep trying different versions until your design works well for them. This helps make sure your final design is not just new, but also works great for the people who will use it.

Testing early with your users is the first step in fighting for them and their experience with the product. Prepare yourself to present research and data to convince the project manager or other stakeholders why the testing has to happen in the early stages and every stage after that. For those outside of the score of UX, it is not easy to see why testing has to start with the concept, the minimum viable product, and why it can't wait until we have a ready-to-launch product. But it is crucial to save time, cost, and effort by testing early and identifying areas that need improvement or pivot massively if the results are telling us the product is going to fail.

As per my experience, Testing should not be the climax. It should be the process in each phase, most importantly when you and your team has completed your Mid fidelity wireframes you should test with the users and stakeholders to get into the nuances of the problems.

As we all know, humans have 5 senses sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch. It has been years of us practicing experience enhancement through sight. It is now our chance to explore the widespread technology of AR/VR/XR and bring out unique experiences that in the future might as well cater to the other senses. While voice interfaces have already become part of our lives catering to the 'hearing' sense, it remains a mystery how we can bring out experiences to cater to other senses.

Staying updated with emerging technologies is crucial for innovative UX design. Regularly engage in research and development by reading tech blogs, attending conferences, and participating in webinars to stay informed about the latest advancements in AR, VR, AI, voice interfaces, and IoT. Additionally, participate in hands-on workshops and training sessions to gain practical understanding and application of these cutting-edge technologies.

With countless technology options available, staying updated is crucial. A perspective that spans from the technological foundation to innovation is key to success and flexibility in UX. However, just as an orchestra in full harmony surpasses the beauty of a solo violinist, the true difference lies in the interaction and unity with the development team. Collaboration is the real differentiator.

Keep up with the newest technologies like AR and VR and think about how they can make your designs better. Try using these technologies in your prototypes. They can create amazing experiences for users that haven't been seen before, making your designs really special and setting new trends in the field.

This is actually kind of fun when you and your team are passionate and also in the competition of who finds the best tech solutions, latest trends on design, best approach to go with and more. I personally find it exciting and fun researching about latest tech and design.

UX design isn't just about buttons and screens; it's about telling a story. We design the experience, not just the tools. Think of it like a cool adventure story, not a boring instruction manual. We turn frustrating situations into moments where the user feels like a hero. A great story helps clients see how their product can make a real difference, making them fall in love with the impact, not just the interface.

Make up situations that show how your design helps users with their problems or makes their life better. A good story not only gets clients interested but also helps them see how your creative ideas can really help with UX.

Sometimes when I’m stuck on a problem. I literally create a narrative in my head. Why not bring this out to the world around us? We are constantly telling stories to ourselves and others and I find bringing it back to the paper creates the most beautiful ux of all. We are not users, our clients are not users, we are people and storytellers. Narrative storytelling is a skill but it is also in all of us, one we can use in our design practice every day!

Whether you’re telling a personal story, developing a brand narrative, or writing fiction, here are some key elements and steps to craft an effective narrative: Elements of a Good Narrative Theme: The central idea or message of the story. It gives the narrative purpose and direction. Characters: The individuals who inhabit your story. Well-developed characters with distinct personalities, motivations, and arcs are crucial. Setting: The time and place where the story unfolds. A vivid setting can immerse the audience and add depth to the narrative.

Crafting the story begins by setting the scene, describing the environment, the user's situation, and the problem they are facing. Your user is the hero of the story, with their needs and motivations highlighted. Clearly articulate the problem or challenge they encounter to build empathy and engagement. Introduce your UX design as the solution to the hero's challenge, demonstrating how it effectively addresses the problem. Finally, highlight the transformation by illustrating the positive change in the user’s life after using your design, focusing on the benefits and improvements.

Reflecting on my work has always been crucial for growth. After completing a major project, I take time to review what worked well and what didn’t. For example, after a challenging redesign of a customer-facing mobile app for photo book creation, I realized that incorporating more user feedback early in the process could have streamlined our efforts.

There’s nothing like a good night's sleep. Avoid rushing to deliver. Finish your work and let it rest for a night. The next day, review it again. Ensure it aligns with the main objectives and maintains the level of quality you want to deliver. Learn to listen to real voices and guide its evolution.

Reflect and adapt at every stage of your process, especially when using the double-diamond approach. In the discovery stage, listen attentively to users, noting their words, tone, and body language. Reflect on what you've heard to validate their feelings, even if you don't agree. In the define stage, synthesise data, create personas, and define problems, ensuring your interpretations are accurate and unbiased. During ideation, generate and refine ideas based on user feedback. In the design stage, test prototypes, observe user interactions, and iterate based on feedback. Always seek diverse perspectives, remain unbiased, and approach problems with genuine empathy.

Reflect and adapt after each project by taking the time to evaluate what worked well and identifying areas for improvement. Stay open to continuous learning by embracing new techniques and methodologies. By adapting your approach based on the lessons learned from each project, you ensure that your solutions remain relevant and effective in the ever-evolving digital landscape.

Do not be settled on what you have done as an initial concept, there is always room to grow and do better. Listen to comments and conserns, see how these can be revised. Don't be stuck with only one view. ????

Diverse persona consideration will be a great way of boosting creativity throughout UX process. ?? It helps to get a wider perspective of problems and pain points for different sets of users, which eventually will lead us considering all scenarios for our business and designing a creative and usable design. ? This will also be helpful for designing our solution for users with disabilities as well so that it would be a thorough user friendly solution?

Gather Post-Implementation Feedback to collect user feedback after deployment to assess how well the solution meets their needs and identify areas for enhancement. Hold team retrospectives to evaluate successes and areas for improvement, fostering learning and adaptation. Make adjustments and enhancements based on feedback and insights gained. Record lessons learned and best practices to guide future projects. Recognise and celebrate team achievements to promote a culture of empathy and continuous improvement. These practices ensure empathy remains central and that you deliver user-centred solutions.
