I agree with that comment & one example that i was involved in was with a wire forming machine, we automated everything but loading & unloading. It was working 2 ladies very hard during their shifts. We seemed to never make enough, of the parts. With the automated equipment. They added 3rd person dropped production from 3 shifts to 2. No one lost their job & we made more parts.

One of the temptations in this world of cheap data gathering is the propensity to collect every piece of data possible, throw it into a historian/data lake, and assume that back end analytics can make sense of it. A more strategic approach is to first evaluate what data is worth storing and tracking and how actionable the information can be before committing it to storage. This can give your data scientists less non-relevant data to sift through and enable smarter decisions faster and save on potential bandwidth issues on WiFi-dependent infrastructure.
