There's a very linear form of thinking here that focuses on the observation benefits of UAV's into the construction industry. We are just beginning to understand the true benefits UAV's can bring to the construction industry as a whole. I would challenge anyone reading this article to think a bit more outside the box though. Can UAV's be used for anything other than observation and monitoring within the construction industry? What if they could lift and transport? Oh wait, they can! What about logistics? Materials? Equipment? Even workforce? The aerial aspect of construction automation is a singular advancement toward the eventual push for total automation. Aerial robotics will most certainly play a role in the total automation ecosystem.

Drones can play an important role for monitoring infrastructure and roads projects, saving time and manhours. Drones are currently used to record progress in mega/giga projects ( next to the timelapse/ streaming CCTV monitoring). the recorded videos, are good to use in Marketing as well. Another efficient way that started to get traction, is the Smart Helmet, Hardhat helmets that have cameras ( Labors and/or supervisors will wear the helmets ) that record progress and send real time data.

Drones can be docked on a project site and set up with predetermined flight paths that can be automatically deployed on whatever interval a project would need. Using software like dronedeploy the data from drone flights can be uploaded regularly to capture 3D virtual twin of the project site. This can be used to take measurements, look for conflicts, compare with design, tack progress...etc. I too often run into project sites that have no as-built data or very outdated as-built data. This seems like it should be a thing of the past while we have the capability to fly a drone and take 360 images of a project site which can be used to create a dynamic 3D model of the existing conditions.

With the help of a drone we were able to give aerial photos of progress which settled the ambiguity of the progress of works. This help to also market a project to stake holders. This reduces argument with regards to progress. With the help of drone we are able to use some software to check terrain and topography of places. This help to draw for design to be progressed to avoid bad design, implementations of concept without design or reconnaissance surveys etc which normally comes to implementing with design resulting in non fit for purpose works. This can result in dangerous infrastructure structures that harmful to life and loss property. This also can result waste of resources both in terms time and financially.
