Here's how you can incorporate creativity into your airport emergency response plans.

Scenarios MUST be based on Most Credible Worst Case Scenarios (MCWCS). In other words, scenario based threats should be simulated threats based on local,regional, and global threat map. Make your scripts to be realistic rather than imaginary and ficticious. Use the aircraft type that reflect your operations, involve the use of UAS(drones) to capture images of the scenes, use of more of TTE to stimulate interest and ensure proportionate community level participation. Finally, do a review after every exercise

If you are involving aircraft, then use aircraft, don't simulate. Make your responders board the plane and preform their tasks, they will most likely have to think outside of the box and most are not accustom to doing that. If you "crash" a plane with 200 souls onboard, don'y have 25 victims and simulate the rest, have a 100+ victims in moulage and overwhelm your responders, that's how they will learn. Pretending leads to a very false sense of security.

Live training with fire always leaves muscle memory, but training that goes into the unexpected can take it to the next level. Game out a military aircraft incident at a municipal airport. Does your staff know about ejection seats, canopies and angles of approach? What materials are involved? Start with knowing the aircraft at the closest base and follow up with other craft that traverse often. Finish up with the off airport incident with difficult access. A final thought is to train on non aircraft incidents where airport resources are requested. Gasoline tankers, oil facility fires, etc.

# Implement scenario-based training that goes beyond traditional methods. Use virtual reality (VR) to simulate various emergency scenarios, allowing staff to experience and respond to realistic, high-pressure situations in a controlled environment. I have seen numerous annual airport drills go through all the steps to plan the drill, but on the day of the drill things do not go as planned. Many times this is because airport administration does not want to disturb the normal day-to-day flow. When the incident occurs it will have a major impact to the normal operations. If you are going to involve the various agenices (Fire, EMS, Law Enforcement, etc.) in your planning then make sure they have the opportunity to participate in the drill. Do not just simulate their response, use them. Their personnel are going to be the ones responding to the incident. It would be very reassuring to know those people have the knowledge, information and abilities to handle the situation.
