Feedback is the most important part in my opinion! It’s so easy to get stuck in your own head! The more people & the earlier you get feedback helps tremendously down the road. Feedback will keep you from making mistakes & spending too much time on the wrong issues. I believe you should be looking for feedback before it feels even close to being “ready” & from people you’d never expect to have an opinion. Finally I’d say look for the negative feedback. The positive feedback feels great, but the negative feedback will make the end result great.

Intelligent people are the ones who are always learning, & if you wish to keep up with them you will need to keep learning too! Now it’s great to study the field you are working in, but don’t be afraid to just learn in general. I find what I learn in one area will apply to another area. It’s always amazed me how much connection I find on this planet.

Iteration is one of the most important parts of getting feedback. What good is feedback if you don’t do anything with it? One of my favorite stories is about two pottery classes. One class was told they only needed to make one final assignment to pass the class & the other class was told they needed to make as many pieces of pottery as they could to pass the class. As you can guess, the 2nd class that made as many pieces as possible created art work that was exponentially better than the first class. Goes to show you it’s much better to just create & recreate than to try it make something perfect.

Feedback loops are very crucial in data science projects. Every decision we make in the entire process need to be evaluated and given feedback. Especially the domain related decisions we make. It helps you to factor the short comings in the next iteration and helps you become better at making decisions in the future. In domain related projects where a data scientist hardly understand the domain he/she needs to factor the domain related feedback in the model to get better outcomes.
