I have found Executive Coaching to be one of the most effective tools for any existing or upcoming leader. The ability to set SMART Goals and achieve them in a short time is truly remarkable!

When leaders are able to tap into coaching, they have the opportunity to identify what might be holding them back from getting the best from their teams. It’s a safe place to share what’s working and what’s not.

Managers are the number one reason that people leave jobs for. So, facilitating leadership growth among managers can be your number one retention strategy. Working with an executive coach would be helpful for increasing self awareness about the environment a manager creates for their people. This goes into building their emotional intelligence muscles and beyond. In many cases, managers may not fully appreciate the value of their employees outside of their current roles. And they may dismiss it as the full responsibility of the employee to demonstrate it. But experience has shown that it is also about the manager’s intention and creativity. Culture is a hard to grasp element in corporate settings - the ere are usually two cultures: the written in the walls “official” wannabe declaration of values, and the one actually being practiced by the CEO and their team. In my opinion authentic coherence between the two of them happens when a company assesses and write down the actual culture and the aspirational one as two separate things.

When leaders are stable, growing and working well as a leadership team I have noticed culture is reinforced rather than reinvented and that is what keeps high performers and high performing teams happy. If there is a lot of turnover at the leadership level it destabilizes teams, we see a lot of snap decisions and that has a flow on effect to culture which then has a negative knock on effect to retention. One tool to prevent this is exec coaching. If done well it can create more aligned leaders who are communicating well with each other leading to better collaboration and less silo's forming. The key is ensuring there is a strategy behind the exec coaching program rather than it being a band aid or even worse, just used for low performers.

Culture when nurtured and reinforced consistently over time can be the key to organizational success as we have seen in our clients. When people feel valued and respected as individuals, they not only stay longer and work happier/harder, they encourage others to join the organization. Even the ones who thought at the first place they can develop a thick skin and stay just focused on delivering work and getting compensated couldn't sustain staying for long. When we say culture, we mainly refer to the leaders and consequently working with a coach they can go themselves first into a transformation and from there the ripples of transformation will emanate.

In my experience trust in your own judgement and in your collaborator capabilities it at the heart to be successful in creating and maintaining employee's empowerment. 1. Select tasks that you feel comfortable in delegating 2. Identify talent that has the potential to succeed in those endeavour 3. Understand if those activities elicit interest and excitement in that specific employee (listen) 4. Before, during and after the duration of the endeavour check in regularly with the employees on these specific activities, offering support (with a coaching approach, providing constructive feedback and always avoiding micro-managing) and highlight how the task is strengthening their unique talents and aligns with their overall development plan

Career development needs to be taken up a notch with a clear succession planning, a necessity that isn't mainstream in most of organizations. Employees can be promised advancing in their career but most of the time the plan is not there particularly when in turn the succession planning for the direct boss isn't clear neither.
