From my experience, it’s truly best to understand how individuals make decisions. While title may govern you a perception, you must truly understand someone’s thought process and what drives decisions or actions for that person. A good example is I like to resolve issues quickly, make a decision, reduce the risk of the situation while we then find a long term or permanent fix. In the other hand, my opposite is a person who needs data, time to analyze, slow methodical approach to putting in a solution. So for me, knowing that, I don’t task people that are data driven to fight fires. I give them the data analysis and deeper dive tasks that will support the longer solution fix

It's important to empathize and listen. Valuing input from all corners can do wonders. Sometimes the best of ideas can come from the backbencher!

Keep the diversity germane to the task(s) at hand. “Ray has vast experience in point-of-sale real estate development and setting up restaurant franchise groups” might not be the best endorsement to bring Ray in, nor the way to utilize Ray’s strength, in a group focused on manufacturing. “Ray has made orders-of-magnitude improvements in timely product assembly based on efficient component processing” likely directly bears on a manufacturing challenge. His other experience and strengths make for a well-rounded team member but, along with being a bassoon virtuoso (I made that one up) might not pertain to the discussion.
