The first step I take, and have always encouraged others to take, when evaluating how I am using and managing my time is to track exactly what you use your time for each day. It doesn’t so much matter what you use to track it (planner, calendar, spreadsheet, time tracking solution, etc.). I jot down what I used each 15 minutes for, and have to be brutally honest with myself. It opens your eyes to times during the day that are peak production, lags in productivity, and flat out getting too easily distracted with things at home pulling you from work completely. At one point, it showed me after 2pm I wasn’t good at tracking what I did so I knew I had to get the highest priority things done earlier, and plan afternoons better.

No one will invest more in you than you will! Two tips here made all the difference for me. First, even though your actual commute to work is walking down the hall or up the stairs, plan your day and schedule such that you aren’t plopping down in your chair right before your first call or meeting. Get your mind engaged with a podcast, reviewing a sales call recording (I LOVE Gong for this) or a book. The second is to intentionally plan time every day to role play with a manager, mentor, or teammate. Have a plan of what skill you’re working on and stick to it till you have it nailed. No one really likes to role play, but the best sales reps plan time daily to do it.
