Here's how you can foster and sustain robust relationships with your team members.

Trust is not built by words but by actions. Every manager needs to be consistent in his thoughts, words and actions. You need to be committed to the organisation, team and own career.

In my long career it has been my experience, as a Manager, that in order to achieve excellence and success - - not just your own success, but the success of the company you work for, it is vital that you treat the entire team with great respect and make them feel important and understood. Hear their voices and encourage them to speak their truth. By doing the above, it fosters a nurturing environment and helps all to achieve excellence.

Según mi experiencia, los pilares fundamentales para su desarrollo son: 1) Mantener una comunicación abierta y honesta en todo momento. 2) Tomar decisiones de manera equitativa y justa para todos los miembros del equipo. 3) Mantener la coherencia entre lo que se dice y lo que se hace. 4) Trabajar en equipo, fomentando siempre la automonía de sus miembros y ayudando a desarrollar sus comepetencias. 5) Proporcionar feedback constructivo y celebrar los éxitos alcanzados.

Make sure that a 1:1 is truly where your future successor can ask for the things they need, get the results they are planning for and be available to be of future service to the company in a way that fits their ambitions and goals.

Trust is earned when the reasons for decisions become clear. Some processes, like rituals, require explanation and reassurance to demonstrate that they are viable and worthwhile. Unlike obfuscation, transparency instills trust. When stakeholders understand what happened — in a clear and concise manner — and can see the justifications for each step of the process, they are more likely to have faith in not just the process but also its decision-making stakeholders.

Emotional safety in a group setting is so important for the relationships to flourish. A team is formed from a group when members feel valued, appreciated for their unique strengths and contributions. When it is emotionally safe for all in the group to voice their opinions without being judged, productivity skyrockets. Especially true when we have true diversity in the group. Nurturing emotional safety is everyone’s business, specially the leader’s. Building pride in the team achievements act as real glue.

Effective communication is paramount in process design. To fully understand the context and address all pertinent questions, it is essential to engage in frequent and meaningful conversations with various stakeholders within the process. Process owners, in particular, possess invaluable insights and detailed knowledge that are crucial for developing an optimal process flow. By maintaining an open dialogue with these key individuals, you can gather comprehensive information, identify potential issues, and collaboratively refine the process to ensure its efficiency and effectiveness. This approach not only enhances the quality of the process but also fosters a sense of ownership and collaboration among team members.

Open dialogue is the key to effective communication. It involves actively listening, sharing perspectives honestly, and fostering an environment where everyone feels heard and respected. By encouraging transparency and constructive feedback, we build stronger relationships, resolve conflicts efficiently, and promote a culture of continuous improvement.

Una vez las vías de comunicación se debiliten, el comienzo de los conflictos estará garantizado. Por lo cual la confianza en el equipo y la escucha en ambas direcciones es muy importante. Sobretodo, analizar los puntos de cada situación desde distintas perspectivas. Lo que le ayudará a cada miembro, y al equipo en general a gestionar las actividades, disminuyendo las situaciones que puedan generar malos entendidos.

In my experience, feedback is important, be it positive or constructive. One needs to understand if their team is putting in their best effort, the results don't decide that. For example, an intern can also be putting their best effort depending upon the limited knowledge he/she has and consequently will improve your team's productivity. So, to keep the team together and to ensure that they focus on improvement and growth, one needs to build the confidence among them through regular feedback. The end result would automatically be better than before.

It's extremely important to recognize and appreciate—and I mean really appreciate—the positive contributions of the people on your team. There's a reason why this is so crucial: it not only makes your team feel good about what they're doing, but it also gives them no reason whatsoever to stop doing what they're doing. If you are constantly recognizing individual and teamwork achievements as they happen, then there's absolutely no question in anyone's mind that their work is seen as valuable by leadership. And if work can be acknowledged at the time of its performance, then why should it not just carry forward into the project with added fuel for even greater success?

It is a must that the entire team be encouraged and recognized for their contribution to the company. Always give positive feedback for a job well done. That is my management style and it works!

El reconocimiento de los esfuerzos es tan importante como el de los logros. Dentro de un equipo, reconocer cada avance fortarlecerá la confianza, fomentará la satisfacción sobre el deber e impulsará a cada miembro del equipo a superar los retos dentro del proceso.

Without targets, you cannot gauge progress. The Process Improvement Methodology begins and ends with the "what," or the reason for doing something in a new way—specifically, what goals need to be achieved. Because these processes exist to reach certain, specified ends (the "why"), they must be designed to attain clearly defined, measurable targets. One can use any number of methodologies—metrics that can be used to maintain the status quo, as a basis for comparison, or even against historical performance—to keep everyone focused on process improvements that have clear goals and are fully trackable—from establishment to completion.

Always share your goals with the team and encourage them to share theirs. I have been trained by my parents, at a very young age, and encouraged by family, friends, work associates and my managers or bosses to always set goals and to know that I can do whatever I want in life and be whoever I want to be. I have been very fortunate to have many great role models and exemplars. Have I had bad managers, yes. Those who only see the bad and struggle to lead while being negative and even to the point of cruelty and Harassment. I’m not that. It does not work and creates a Hostile Work Environment.

El compromiso es la piedra angular en el equipo. Que cada miembro sea capaz de recnocer la importancia de sus objetivos, y como estos estan alineados con los del resto de los miembros será la garantía para el logro de las metas, a través de la sinergia.

El éxito de un equipo está garantizado por medio del aprendizaje y mejoras continuas. La cultura del aprendizaje y tambien de la ense?anza son vitales para fortalecer las relaciones dentro del equipo. A través de talleres, seminarios y dentro del mismo equipo que los miembros puedan ense?ar sus habilidades al resto del equipo para que estos puedan tener conocimiento de cada actividad y de su importancia en el logro de las metas.

One thing that I’ve found helpful is to ask other leaders about books that they’ve read and recommend (normally something centered on leadership, management, safety, etc.). I also keep a few books on leadership around my work station (a cubicle at this office) so that curious individuals can be tempted by seeing it. Sometimes it sparks a good conversation that can lead to a learning opportunity, other times I end up lending the book out for the person to read. When I do, I try to get them to commit to a promise date, instilling a necessity to follow through with reading it and hopefully improving the chances of getting the book back. lol.

Once you embark on the journey of continuous improvement and ensure that everyone is committed to the process, it is crucial to establish a long-term plan for ongoing learning and development. Continuous improvement necessitates continuous learning, especially in today’s rapidly evolving environment. Create a structured plan to regularly upgrade your team’s skills and competencies through training, workshops, and professional development opportunities. By fostering a culture of learning and adaptability, you empower your team to stay ahead of industry trends and effectively implement new strategies and technologies. This commitment to continuous learning ensures sustained improvement and keeps your team competitive and innovative.

Embrace and learn to love mistakes and errors. We need them to learn and improve every day. Track all improvement initiatives and stablish clear objectives and goals.

While working in our datacenter we noticed that we had some time slots that did not have a lot of coverage. The team had given feedback about possible flex scheduling for them. Our company at the time did not have a policy for it. After collaborating with the team and management, we were able to put in a flex schedule and the team loved it! To the team it was a reward, and management liked the coverage….WIN – WIN It all came from listening to the team.

There are multiple leadership styles or ‘hats’ and being able to mold your style to the one the one that gets the best response out of the individual is one of the key success factors for a leader. Some of those hats (not all including) include transactional, authoritarian, democratic, shepherd, and transformational.
