One helpful practice my professor always encouraged was viewing every "final rendition" as not truly final. Only then can you fully break down the task and optimize the project description. While the aesthetics, function, and ideation might seem complete, revisiting the project one last time often reveals new ideas and improvements. These last-minute insights, which can emerge just days before the due date, can significantly impact the final product and often make or break a designer in the industry.

I try to convey to my students that the work of a designer is inherently filled with challenges. Where there are no challenges, there is no room for innovation. It is much more difficult, and unrealistic, to work on a project without constraints. Therefore, I always encourage students to create constraints or problems for themselves (whether they be conceptual, material, technological, ergonomic, or process-related) around which they must navigate to find a solution that makes sense to exist, because making sense should be the primary goal of any project.
