Here's how you can foster a growth mindset towards creativity through coaching.

Creativity and innovation are essential for any person and any organization. Despite that, especially in the organizational environment, we can see many people agree on this “duty”, but we have fewer people available to support the process that involves errors, losses and negative results. We need leaders who can share a vision and responsibilities for any innovative and creative process, so that the team thinks outside the box without fear of retaliation and lawsuits. This attitude creates space for a learning process.

Try to focus on encouraging experimentation and learning from failures. For example, imagine you're coaching a team of designers. Create a safe space where they can share wild ideas without fear of judgment. Praise their efforts and innovation, not just successful outcomes, and when something doesn’t work out, just treat it as a learning experience. Then, by asking questions like, "What did we learn from this?" or "How can we improve?" you can shift their focus from fixed abilities to continuous improvement. This approach would help them see creativity as a skill they can develop over time, boosting their confidence and willingness to take creative risks.

Fostering a growth mindset towards creativity through coaching involves several strategies. Firstly, encourage individuals to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth and learning rather than obstacles. Provide constructive feedback that focuses on effort, strategies, and progress rather than solely on outcomes. Cultivate a supportive environment that values experimentation, innovation, and resilience. Help individuals develop self-awareness and recognize their strengths and areas for development. Encourage reflection on setbacks and encourage a focus on continuous improvement. By fostering a growth mindset, coaching can empower individuals to unleash their creative potential and adapt effectively to change.

Stay curious and open, and you cannot help but grow. Treat your mind like a plant and give it nutrients, rest, and the right environment and allow it to grow. Everything situation in life is a learning opportunity. When one sees things from the perspective, one will grow with each lesson received.

To foster a growth mindset encourage a positive attitude towards challenges. I help clients see challenges as opportunities for growth rather than obstacles. This shift in perspective encourages them to embrace difficult tasks and view them as a chance to learn and improve. One of my favorite books is "Failing Forward" by John C. Maxwell. I usually recommend that my clients read or listen to this book. Additionally, I believe it is important to emphasize celebrating the hard work and dedication clients put forth; celebrating the wins no matter how small they are goes along way in cultivating a growth mindset.

One can excel only when "out of the comfort zone". Here the task of Coach/Manager also play a vital role. New Challenges should be thrown to the team with a positive environment and your team may need guidance on this new journey. As a manager or coach timely guidance and support will fill the team with the power of positivity and ownership to take challenges head on. This will be a learning challenge with a conducive environment for them and the positive results will be definite which will be a proud moment for both of them. Also it will build a trust relationship between team member and manager which itself is a very good sign for an organisation's growth.

In my work with clients, one of the best ways I’ve found to develop a growth mindset is by stepping out of your comfort zone. As your coach, I’ll help set challenges that push you to explore new ideas and perspectives. These challenges are designed to stretch your creative skills without overwhelming you. By tackling progressively difficult tasks, you’ll build confidence in handling complex problems and start seeing challenges as opportunities for growth rather than obstacles. This approach has consistently helped my clients grow and thrive creatively.

A goalless effort is a wasted effort. Challenging oneself to keep improving on results is the basis for consistent growth. Growth is the antidote for death. A person who stops growing starts dying and that applies to creativity too. Once you stop setting new goals and challenges, your creativity begins to die. We get perfect by practicing and we improve by setting new and higher goals. The skills developed while striving to achieve the new goal is why you'll be able to say after accomplishing the task, "I have grown". So, setting new challenges is not only about the task, it is a recipe for growth.

Give people creative problems that can be solved in several ways. This will encourage them to try different methods. Encourage brainstorming and letting ideas come freely. Sometimes, having limits can help you come up with new ideas. To encourage people to think in new ways, put limits on them, like not having enough time or resources. As a coach, show that you're willing to try new things and go where no one has gone before. This makes it okay to take risks during the artistic process.

Isn't the best reflection question almost always: "Just look how far you've come from this time last month/year, etc.?" There's nothing more humbling and wonderful than recognizing the energy and payoff that daily discipline gets you. Add weekly reminders to your calendar to reflect on your wins, however big or small, and you'll see an uplift in your motivation and drive.

Creativity requires focus (on the subject) on one hand and distractedness ( from the creation) on the other hand. In other words, creativity cannot get invoked into a project by stressing and straining on the subject. Define the subject and take off. Let the subconscious bring you the solution for that defined subject. We often underestimate the zillion exabytes of information lying in our minds. They all get aligned, but only when we allow that to happen. The only way that humongous data could be put to use is by self-reflection. When we pause to self-reflect, we allow the discrete and huge information lying inside to align to create a growth mindset towards creativity.

In my experience with clients, reflection has proven to be a powerful tool for fostering a growth mindset. I prompt them to look back at their projects and consider what went well and what could be improved. This process isn’t about dwelling on failures but recognising them as a natural part of learning. Through guided reflection, clients can identify patterns in their thinking and behaviour that may hinder their creativity, allowing them to develop strategies to overcome these barriers. This approach helps clients to grow and adapt, ultimately enhancing their creative potential.

"What has worked?" "Why did it work?" "How do we improve on what worked?" "What can be improved on?" "What has not worked?" "Why has it not worked?" "What can we do better?" These are some of the most important questions a creative must always ask in order to be at the top of their creative game. It is the reason some creatives stay at the top of the coaching industry while some struggle to find their place. Reflecting is very important for developing a growth mindset and experiencing improvements consistently.

Grit is saying “I Can” when faced with moments you feel like “I Can’t” It’s when you choose to challenge yourself. When you don’t accept the limitations in your head. “I Can’t” is a shorter way of saying: “It’s hard and I don’t want to try” Fight that. Think: “This is hard but the least I can do is try” When you fail, try it again. The moment you succeed is achievement. Multiple achievements breeds Confidence. Confidence will keep you going back for more!!

Looking back at your past experiences can be a helpful way to reflect on what you have learned, even if the experience was negative. Focus on the skills and knowledge you gained, how it has influenced your personal growth, what you learned from it, how it changed your perspective, what you did differently, and how it impacted yourself and others. If you could go back and do it all over again, what would you do differently? How do you think and feel about it now? For me, I've learned over the last few months that being PRESENT is so very powerful. Thinking about the experience changed my perspective and knowing that I can change how I feel about things.

In my experience, fostering a growth mindset involves a few key steps: focusing on learning, setting challenges, encouraging reflection, and cultivating grit. I’ve seen firsthand how viewing each project as a learning opportunity rather than just aiming for perfection can transform one’s approach. Setting tailored challenges helps clients step out of their comfort zones and explore new perspectives. Reflecting on successes and areas for improvement allows clients to identify and overcome barriers. Finally, by breaking long-term goals into manageable steps, clients develop grit and perseverance. This approach helps them see challenges as growth opportunities and persist through difficulties, ultimately enhancing their creative abilities.

Human nature thrives in inconsistency and it's very easy to come up with excuses for not getting things done. Fortunately, consistency is built by consistent practice and that makes grit a very important skill. It's never easy to stay consistent, you'll have to keep pushing through. The more you persevere, the more the consistency you build and the better your result. There's really no short cut about this. You've got to get up and get going.

"Progress, not perfection." This has to be the watchword for anyone who desires to stay on a long term journey. Striving for perfection is a recipe for discouragement but celebrating little progress and wins has the capacity to make you see how far you have come which then serves as a motivation for what you can achieve. This is how I get my clients to stay on a weight management journey - one of the most difficult journeys to stay consistent on.

Don't wait for the finish line to celebrate how far you've come. Each week, I check in with my big goals and write down what progress I am celebrating from that week. Seeing the growing list of celebrations creates a great momentum and motivation.

I encourage clients to take stock of how far they’ve come in their creative journey, acknowledging both big achievements and small victories. This practice boosts morale and reinforces that growth is an ongoing process. By celebrating progress, clients solidify their gains and feel motivated to continue their creative exploration and development. This approach has helped many of my clients sustain their momentum and keep striving for new heights.

I've always found it so motivating to acknowledge how far I've come, even if I'm not all the way there yet. This is so easy to do, and yet so many only focus on the end goal, meaning anywhere less is classed as a failure. It also helps to co-create relevant milestones towards the ultimate goal so that it's easier to maintain momentum.

If you really want people to be creative - to think and act differently (which is the central tenet of mentoring after all), treating the mishaps along the way as learning is essential. The best lesson shared with me was the notion of 'Mis-takes', those bits of film left on the cutting room floor so the end product was better. Let's encourage more mis-takes because until we've experimented, we don't necessarily know what will make the difference. Then, take joy in metaphorically sweeping them into the bin.

The biggest hurdle is getting past the mindset, “I am not creative”. creativity is not a mystical characteristic that you either have or don’t have. creativity can also come from a process of problem solving. Example take any problem or a way of doing things. Either you have your own idea or use what is happening now as the starting point. Then prove the extreme opposite. Then prove the starting point and compare answers. Start taking the good and bad of each and create a new solution. Use this process over and over and you may be shocked at what you create. Everyone can create with open mind, curiosity, a process, & the environment that encourages thinking. Mentors & Bosses must provide the environment and maybe a road map.

All the five actions listed are relevant and critical. Achieving a good outcome for the team that one is coaching requires a talent for showing that you care. Sincerity and painstaking attitude to all the activities carried with the team members will inspire them to learn and aspire to do their best.

Take time daily to nurture your creativity. Do activities that unite the body, mind and spirit so you can hear from 'heaven' how to proceed. So dance ??, sing ??, paint, sew, walk in nature, do the things that put you in the space where creativity flows. It is said that towards the end of Beethevon's life, he started to let his compositions take shape in his imagination and listen with his ‘inner ear’. He was deaf, a master at his craft and a musical ?? genius. So take a breathe, get into that creative space and soar to greatness. It's within your reach.

We can use Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi’s concept of flow that describes a state of deep immersion and engagement in activities. This state, often referred to as being "in the zone," is characterized by a sense of enjoyment, intrinsic motivation, and a feeling that time has either sped up or slowed down. Coaches can enhance focus by creating environments that minimize distractions and encourage intrinsic motivation by helping coachees find joy in the creative process. Additionally, fostering a supportive environment that views failures as learning opportunities and encourages risk-taking can significantly enhance creative exploration and growth. Hope this helps!
