If you can only focus on 100% complete, the length of time it takes to get there can erode the will to continue. Reviewing patent databases can help identify innovation trends and gaps in the market. I regularly analysed patent filings in our industry using databases like Google Patents. This practice highlighted emerging technologies and unmet needs, sparking ideas for new R&D projects that aligned with market trends and had a higher likelihood of success.

In my personal experience, when facing a roadblock, I mentally and physically step away for an hour or two. I've always joked that my best ideas come during my commute when I'm listening to music and not actively thinking about the problem. Others around me swear by physical exercise to clear a mental block.

Keep sharing your progress with others (if that is possible). I have found that regular feedback on my ideas, how they progress over time and what I have done to solve/build toward them, helps me to refocus. Especially when my own thoughts or direction isn't quite what is needed in relation to solving a problem -sometimes I percieve a problem that doesn't exist. This prevents me from wasting time creating something people don't really want or need. I've used this across technical and team leadership, sales, presentations and now building a SaaS Platform. I make sure I'm always connected to people with industry knowledge willing to share feedback and guidance.
