In all the places I've worked, what's always demanded, even in the selection process, is that the candidate has a good foundation. Basic concepts and more open-ended questions so that candidates can explain to lay people how it works or what a certain concept is.

A key consideration to be successful on a job interview is preparation. It's also important to have data points. Numbers will make your narrative more tangible for the the interviewers.

Body language can show whether the person is nervous or confident, which is the most common to detect, but there are some techniques to check whether the person is connected to the process or even lying about some information.

Clear and effective communication is the most difficult part of the selection process, because often, due to nervousness, the candidate doesn't hear or understand the question and has difficulty asking, which is totally valid, often causing a lack of clarity in communication as a whole and even causing serious faults

A tip is to make a "remember session" on situations that you had in your career up to now that seems to be relevant for the position you will be interviewed and cases that make you proud and some situations where you where not well succeeded also, reflecting your learnings on that situations. It's important to write it down and, if possible, to follow the STAR Method, where you will construct your narrative on Situation, Task, Action, and Results.

Managing IT Operations involves juggling many different issues from various technology subjects while also anticipating problems that might arise in the future. Thus, an effective IOPS Leader not only requires a broad understanding across many different IT disciplines, but also objective, problem-solving skills such as: 1- Critical Thinking: the ability to analyze situations, eliminate noise and extract a reasonable conclusion. 2- Prioritizing: the ability to understand trade-offs and determine which actions take precedence over others. 3- Decision-Making: the ability (and confidence) to chart a course, trust it, stick to it and communicate it efficiently. Summarizing: provide guidance and stability, solve problems, be accountable.
