You must become active polish your profile and get active start publishing every day. Tip: if you have no own content - no problem - start resharing content of others that is relevant to your professional focus. Remember LinkedIn is not Facebook. Your posts needs to focus on your professional network and your networking goals. You also should engage in posting comments in discussions under posts, follow and in selected cases connect to thought leaders. Also always expand your network with adding relevant people. Remember LinkedIn has 30,000 connections limit. Don’t waste it on wrong people.

Simplest advice I've ever given: start every conversation with, "How can I be of help", and mean it. Don't look for immediate rewards, don't nickle and dime on pay, just be enthusiastic, genuine and useful. The dark side of this is that you will get used, by some, without direct compensation, but everything is an opportunity (network, resume building, reputation, etc.), if framed correctly. Friends of mine strongly disagree with this approach, to be sure, and they have valid concerns, but this is what I try to do, and have few regrets.
