Here's how you can expand your knowledge in aviation through continuing education.

Industry conference are not only fun, they are very informative in terms of developing ideas or building on ideas for your own use either personal or professional. There have been many times where I have attended an industry conference and have came back wanting to implement an idea or new technology in my own line of work or in the program that I work for. Also, it is very good for networking with industry experts that you might not usually encounter. An example I can give is that I have at times felt like I was on a lonely island at my college institution that may teach many disciplines other than aviation. By attending these conference, I have been exposed to specific best practices in terms of aviation/aircraft maintenance education.

I can't say enough about aviation certification programs and professional higher education degrees, both go hand in hand. While there are many benefits with traditional education degree in the area of aviation, whatever niche you may have in aviation, I encourage seeking and gaining a professional certification from your governing authority. I can speak for myself in the U.S. and under the FAA that my A&P certification along with my higher education degrees have came together to open doors within the industry that may have not been possible if I had one or the other. Also, if you have somehow fallen into the aviation field, I encourage you on getting an industry certification, it'll make your voice more reputable and impactful if need be.

I am a huge believer in passing the knowledge or sharing what you know to the next person, especially considering the knowledge and experience gap that is ever so looming in the area of aviation i.e. retirements, aviation maintenance/education. From personal experience, if you can teach the concept, not only does it pass the knowledge on to the next person but it also solidifies one's own fundamental understanding of aircraft systems, or aviation area of expertise. I believe that this enhances your individual knowledge in terms of being that subject matter expert for that particular concept. Aircraft systems and technologies might change, but rudimentary/fundamental knowledge does not. Make it a point to take on teaching/mentoring roles.
