Here's how you can excel in your executive role.

I follow a simple rule when shopping for groceries – “not to have a list”. The idea is, if you can’t remember, it’s probably not very important. The same works for me when I am working my “punch list” for the day. I never write my punch list..I act based on my intuition of the critical priority at hand. Sometimes it’s tactical, sometimes it’s strategic, and that’s part of the process. I do have a simple trick when I am unable to decide what I need to focus on that moment..I ask myself..” what are we trying to do?” This question somehow brings things into focus for me. So.. don’t make lists, remind myself of the why, and be prepared for whatever comes to focus. In short..believe in your inherent ability to decide. Do what leaders do.

Some way I agree and On the other hand I disagree time management will actually depend on the kind of job at hand no matter how you manage your time if the job is heavy ,you will need a strategy to plan your time .

The best way in my eyes to save time is to decide and avoid keeping thing in the "maybe" file. Either it's yes or no. Because things change with time, the decisions need to be done in the present time. Should you have a "maybe" file, might as well put it in the "no". Or you need more information to be able to decide, then ask for the information and take it back when needed. That's how I save time.

I used to run a podcast (like every other person, I am sure) and I learned an important lesson during the interviews. When my guest starts talking, I immediately shut up. Even a guttural pause, or “umm” sound would prompt this behavior. I had to do this because I was preparing for my response while they were talking during the initial episodes. Eventually this shutting up while others talk opened up into a much more profound process of active learning. I was able to not only shut up, but could hear them more clearly and take note of what they were saying, why they were saying it, and the underlying meaning of it all. I now follow the same process when an employee or manager or VP comes to voice their opinion. Leaders should listen more.

For proper understanding, communication needs to flow well. Always use Language that your audience can understand, this enhances effective and clear communication.

I think it’s impossible for leaders to be good examples with everything. They have to choose what examples they set and focus intently on those. Let me give an example — I care about my team being punctual. I make a point to be at every meeting at least a minute early. This eventually became a standard at the company, because I care about being timely. However, I do have my flaws…who doesn’t (if you think you don’t, you are lying to yourself). I tend to swear when I want to get my point across or when the passion is undeniable. I eventually apologize, but I give myself the permission to slip up on areas I care less about. I am not a pastor running a church, I am a leader who cares passionately about my team and my customers…

People tends to believe more what the see than what they hear. Living an exemplary life / taken positive actions speaks louder than voice.

Empowering takes lot of courage and even more character...it is a very misused word in corporate sector. Empowering in substance needs to let go the reign with trust and resolve. Trust on self and more in the competency and wisdom of person or team you are empowering. It also takes courage and character to accept failure and sub optimal performance of the empowered team as yours while giving full credit to the empowered team for the laurels of success. Effective mentoring without breathing on neck is big enabler of empowerment. Though delegation and empowerment are different things ..yet in my view effective delegation leads to effective empowerment over a period of time .

During the surge in Iraq War, U.S. under the leadership of General David Petraeus and H.R. McMaster, shifted strategy to focus on counterinsurgency and decentralized decision-making thereby empowering their officers. You can easily disagree about the merits of the war, but it’s hard to argue against this change in strategy which have become part of the textbook today. The book Adapt: Why Success always starts with Failure by Tim Harford gives a good summary amongst other how this strategy came to light, but also a lot of other strategies.

Empowering people motivates them to accept what you intend to offer. Help attracts favour, so is very good to empower people positively.

It’s natural for a self confident individual to bring about empowering another team player would affect positive vibes to drive success for the project objectives. In addition the whole team would enjoy the success achieved.

Employees need a sense of autonomy to make decisions and take action. Employee empowerment also means sending a message to the employee that he or she has the abilities, skills, and intelligence to organize the work in such a way as to achieve the objectives set for him or her. It is a real pledge of confidence that gives the feeling of being valued and useful to the company and gives the desire to become more involved.

The biggest inventions where done because of a problem, the inventors came up with ideas in front of a problem. So look at your problem and adapt, find better solutions, smater ways, understand the barriers, get more knowledge on the subjet. Failure doen't exist it's only a lack of persistance.

Two specific examples that might help similar teams: 1. We encourage colleagues to spend time learning new things on a day to day basis, and present their findings to the team. We spend time regularly on this during our weekly meetings. If the team agrees that a solutions would improve our workflow, we update our workflow descriptions then and there. 2. Each project kick-off means, among other things, updating to newer software & firmware versions, testing compatibility, and analysing new features. This way we can catch and correct software compatibility issues before starting the project and always use up-to-date software & firmware.

My grandfather told me one day, you are only as good as your network and connections. He use to be director of Nestlé Suisse. And I only now start to see what he means, we cannot live alone, we need to have trustfull partners in all of our fields. Having a trustfull network makes you stronger.

Relationship is good . To build network, you need good relationship. Remember, your network is your NETWORTH. Investing in good relationships , you requires, quality time, credibility, honestly, dedication .

Simple, succinct, and relatable!
