As the saying goes, "The only constant is change." And that is particularly evident for manufacturing professionals. Since the beginning of the industrial revolution, inventors, technicians, and entrepreneurs have continuously leveraged science, engineering, finance and other disciplines to advance the state of manufacturing. A manufacturing professional's literal survival is dependent on their ability to embrace change by planning for it and leading their organizations through it.

My approach definitly involves having a holistic view of the process. From that you should be able to assess your resources and and constraints and work with a cross functional team to roadmap. And with iteration, you are now perpetually in tune, and adaptation becomes the daily reality.

To excel in Manufacturing Engineering we have to follow below path. 1.Understanding the proces-Understand the process in which you are going to dive down. 2.Asking current situation-Process we are following is may be upto mark, but we have always improve this. 3.Innovation and continual improvements-We have to add innovation by doing continual improvement in our process.

I usually acknowledge Manufacturing Numbers and rates ?? in terms of 1. Cost per unit ???? 2. Product cycle ?? 3. Personale per unit ?? 4. Bottle necks and idle machineries ?? Then embrace the change, be agile, engage the team and execute strategies changes bottom up as long it’s not IPO or stock related!!

Technology is simply a tool, it all depends on how one uses it. To leverage it in the best way, we must start focus on the needs and the process and evaluate if it would be useful to adopt higher or lower technology degree. For many of the tasks it may be worthy to add more technology, but the process and the needs must be thoroughly understood to leverage the technology in the best way.

You should always be looking to continuously improve your direct relevant skills for manufacturing enginnering. Other skills that benefit to be improved, should not be neglected. These are skills on communication, conflict resolution, and other soft skills training that make you easier to work with. It doesn't matter how good your ideas are, if no one else wants to talk to you or work with you. Having training on work shops, how to run work shops and be the facilitator, how to create a safe environment where everyone can't wait to share their ideas. How to validate the contributions of your team, without having to implement every idea is also highly valuable training. The foundation you build in interpersonal skills is invaluable.

One way I've built in resilience, is through open communication in regards to all efforts. Putting down the ego, being transparent about the failure, or hey maybe the project costs were too high compared to the ROI. Communicating when projects get put on hold, not just with internal customers and departments but also the external customers that are impacted as well. Host meetings to review projects, even when they don't work out as intended, gave a workshop on how to avoid a repeated failure, acknowledge the team for all their efforts and speak to the pains they may be facing, or the hopes that may be dashed.

After presenting to a group of wanta be entrepreneurs, an astute young man asked, what is the one word to describe what every entrepreneur needs to be successful. Without hesitation, “Resilience, is the cornerstone of successful entrepreneurship”. One can build resilience to such depths by simply recognizing the call to action and keeping moving forward.
