As a designer, the onus is on you to seek out ways to improve and hone your skills in line with new trends and best practices. I do this by - following senior design content creators on social media - reading Medium articles - watching YouTube videos and tutorials - reading design books - watching design documentary - following the latest news from design companies - reading design documentation and design systems once they're published etc. I've found that being constantly on the look out for information makes it easier for information to gravitate towards you and boost your skills.

Whenever I feel (or flat out KNOW) I've failed in my designs, I try and immediately get outside to get some sunshine and fresh air. Whether a brisk walk with my dog, or a jog, this kind of mini-workout immediately lifts my mood and helps restore some confidence. Crucially, it also gets the blood flowing and clears my head, allowing me to start to analyze what went wrong, why it went wrong, and how I can start to correct my mistakes. Besides that, being outside surrounded by the "bigness" of nature really helps put my failure in perspective. Between the clear head, vitamin D, extra blood flow, etc. I quickly get the energy and clear-headedness to re-engage with my failure and start to formulate a resolution.

Is it that our designs are impractical, unusable, non viable, unsuitable or are they commercial failure?! This introspection & reflection based on the client, market, peer & networking feedback shall be very helpful is our resurgence. Again, Failure is never final so we may have not done right today but there’s always a scope and chance to turn the future around. Armed with the lessons learned, going back to the drawing board is the first step to rewriting our success. Connecting & collaborating right, plugging gaps and being happily optimistic about next project is the key.

En mis clases suelo repetir a mis alumnos esta frase: "Lo importante es que identificas qué parte de tu dise?o no te gusta." Está bien, puede que a veces fracases, la pregunta es: ?Por qué??Qué es lo que podría haber estado mejor??Qué es lo que tenés que mejorar? La respuesta a esas preguntas son lo que ganaste con ese fracaso y es información muy valiosa: Saber exactamente qué hacer distinto en tu próximo intento. Ya no estas empezando desde cero. Muy pocas personas tienen el privilegio de saber con exactitud qué tienen que desarrolar. Abraza el exito que se esconde tras un supuesto fracaso.
