I was transferred to the site of a mega project and the first thing I asked for was the daily Minutes of Meeting (MOM) to learn where construction is at, and what problems we are facing. To my surprise, I was told that the MOMs are being circulated for review and approval of all participants. I was happy about reviews and approvals but the MOM that I received was for the meeting taken place 2 weeks before and it was 11 pages. So, I volunteered to prepare MOMs, and I was given a chance. I wrote MOMs during the meaning right on the spot, and it was only one page and was read and approved at the end of each meeting and distributed within one hour. This transformed project control at the site and set a model for all those involved.

Various challenges surface during project execution that can potentially affect the the scope, cost, schedule or quality of the project 1. Such concerns evolve organically. In each progress review meeting list these concerns 2. Assess the potential of these concerns and grade them in terms of their severity as Low, Medium and High 4. Some of them can be categorised as risks with mitigation plans. Some of them can turn into issues that demand immediate resolution 5. Discuss with stakeholders and resolve the issues after impact analysis 6. Proactively, initiate action to address all the concerns By following the above approach, one can navigate through all challenges
