Writing is an important skill in life. From my experience, it helps in both work and personal life, and most importantly, it helps clear your thoughts and improve your communication over time. In our highly connected world, writing is a powerful way to connect with your audience directly through social media. Nowadays, storytelling has become more popular and effective because people have shorter attention spans. While these reasons alone are enough to work on improving your writing skills, I believe that writing is also a powerful way to discover who you are and what you can become.

It’s called ‘Content Hierarchy’, where writers need to put the most important information at the top and then go down according to the potential knowledge to educate its readers without losing the core intent.

Connection is important. Do not try to be Shakespeare and use words your general audience doesn't know about them. Educate through simple real-life examples and illustrations in your mind through simple words. Show the difference between features and benefits and tell your readers how the product or service can change their lives like people already using them. Simplicity makes your content persuasive, not power words that don't fit in your general audience’s mind. Try to write by going into their shoes so they can understand, digest and take action according to how you are showing your content through a strong call to action.

One of the things that perhaps contributes more than other in this sea of data and information in which we navigate is the power of stories. They have the ability to be short and simple to convey an idea. Think of Odysseus' journey, on his return from Troy: overcoming adversity and time with perseverance, conviction, and some cunning, led him to achieve his venture. What differences can you find as a lesson for an entrepreneur?

Everyone loves a good story; whether oral, visual or written. Becoming a better writer requires knowing how to incorporate a story into written pieces; no matter how professional it needs to be, knowing how to use formal words in such stories will help it flow. Except for terms and conditions maybe and every other material that is strictly official, every written piece should have a touch of storytelling - from podcast reviews to reports to articles to blog posts and website homepages. Getting better at infusing stories into every piece of writing requires being an avid reader. We tend to copy the style of those whose books and stories we read.
