Earning the trust and respect is more important in any relationship whether it's official or personal. One important thing is earning some one's trust is not very easy.

In my most recent experience, I've been challenged on a daily basis. After having tuned in with my boss on the human side I showed that I would do anything to get the job done properly and in time. He soon realized that he could rely on my proactivity, reactivity, and ability to be the new reference for Branding matters of all sorts. I have been company-minded, team-oriented, humble and open to listening to every shareholder and stakeholder but self-confident enough to provide answers with assertiveness and building trust all around my figure.

In my experience seeking feedback works really well. Showing you're open to feedback and willing to improve by actively seeking their input on your work. After completing a project or task, ask for their thoughts on how you could have done better or what you did well.

Sharing a piece of your story (how you chose a path, what or who made you understand your vocation, the experience they don't expect that made you you) is a great way to add a personal touch to your relationship with your boss. This way you may build a common ground for sharing experiences and perspectives.
