I took on a role of technology manager without having a strong understanding of the hardware/infrastructure of IT. To help me learn, one of the things I did was took pictures of racks in the server room. Then drew diagrams to match them. Then asked Network Admin to walk me through what each box does. We drew additional pictures of things like Network access, security protocols, outside vendor involvement, etc. In addition, I pitched in and helped on projects like moving our learning lab from PCs to terminals. I also attended trainings and read some books. But always followed those up with a conversation with our Network Admin to see how it applied to the org I worked at. Concepts make more sense when you see them in action at your org.

Il faut donc mettre en place des routines qui assureront la bonne santé de votre SI. Il faut insuffler à vos équipes la nécessité de maintenir à jour et de vérifier le SI. En valorisant ces actions qui semblent ennuyeuses, mais qui sont les fondements d'un SI de qualité.

One thing I found helpful was to rotate development team members on Operations Mangement including monitoring, triaging and normal maintenance tasks. Junior members are paired with experienced members and are always included in tasks.
