Show vulnerability to your team. Once your team see their leader as a real person with vulnerability that doesn’t cross any professional boundaries, it will allow for growth that’s unimaginable.

Building trust is crucial indeed! In my experience, being transparent about both successes and failures has helped me establish credibility with others. It's about showing authenticity and genuine care for their concerns.

The most important elements to build trust with your team are showing transparency, taking ultimate responsibility for an organization, consistency in action, and clear communication. This entire process requires a huge amount of inner work and self-reflection daily.

Trust is indeed the foundation of influence. I make it a priority to establish credibility and reliability. I carve out time to truly get to know my team members and stakeholders, investing in relationships and showing genuine interest in each person. When people trust you, they are more open to your ideas and suggestions. Demonstrating expertise and competence in my field also increases my persuasiveness by positioning me as a knowledgeable authority. Following up and holding promises are crucial to maintaining that trust and influence.

Para lograrlo, sugiero usar la escalera de inferencias. Método que podemos usar en todas las reuniones de trabajo. Para hacerlo, sigue estos pasos: 1° Transparentando desde dónde opinamos, ej. "desde el punto de vista del MKT..". 2° Revelando los datos que tomamos de la realidad, ej. "la NPS muestra que el X% de.." 3° Comparto cómo interpreto los datos, ej. "Estos datos muestran.." 4° Finalmente entrego mis conclusiones, ej. "En conclusión considero.." Una presentación sólida influencia en las opiniones de los demás y en la toma de decisiones.

Listen with the intent to understand, not with the intent to reply! Listen deeply: There's nothing like truly listening to someone and trying to see things from their point of view to build trust. Get to the root: Sometimes we rush to solve problems without understanding what's really going on. Taking time to listen and reflect helps uncover the real issue. Ease emotions: Listening lets people express their feelings. Influence positively: When someone feels heard, they're more likely to listen to you. That gives you a chance to influence them in a good way.

Clear communication is indeed crucial! I've learned that firsthand through my experiences. I've found that breaking down complex ideas into simple, relatable stories helps in making my message more understandable and impactful. Also, being mindful of non-verbal cues has been a game-changer in how I connect with others during conversations.

People will always remember how you made them feel, and this will influence their future decisions and behaviors toward you. So, focus on listening actively and making them feel seen and heard. Connect over personal experiences while being authentic. Others pick up your vibes subconsciously, and even though they can't put their finger on it, they will feel that something is off about you. So authenticity comes first, always.

I agree that emotion indeed plays a significant role in decision-making. I focus on meeting people where they are at, showing empathy by understanding and sharing their feelings. By aligning my message with their emotional drivers—whether through shared values, hopes, or fears—I create a strong bond that facilitates influence. I make it a priority to go on the journey with them, acknowledging their emotions and demonstrating genuine concern. This emotional connection builds trust and opens the door to more effective persuasion.

The people that are most influential are the ones that can understand what makes each person (or, I like to think of them as customers) tick - what do they like? What are they interested in and what do they care about? If you try to sell an Hermès bag to a woman who cares most about finances the same way you would a woman who cares about status, you won’t get anywhere - you need to change your approach. For the first woman, focus on the investment (high quality, very durable, high resale value) and for the second, focus on the heritage and exclusivity. Business is no different - if you want to get through to people you need to adapt your style to their preferences.

The thought most often on the mind of our wonderful species: WIIFM - "What's In It For Me?". Knowing this is a powerful leadership tool. When communicating anything, keep this in mind. The bigger the message, the more important this becomes. 2 examples: As CEO you are informing your company of a reorganisation. Emphasize how your employees will profit from this. Or as a Team Lead, you are asking an unwilling team member to hold a presentation for a big client. Emphasize how they can learn skills and gain experience that they benefit from their entire career. Etc. Influence means being able to have an effect on someone's behavior. People are strongly motivated by things that they benefit from. As a leader, WIIFM is your friend.

Coaches can support leaders to improve their influencing skills by encouraging them to consider and be aware of who the decision-maker is, and what factors might be impacting the person they aim to influence, such as personal dynamics, relational challenges and power structures in the organisation.
