In my experience, understanding core business is equally important as learning technical or functional. People diving into ERP take it as a module and study and don’t understand the business behind it. Whether one is in manufacturing, retail or any other business how it works. If we get the crux, it becomes easy to gain the requirement and build the solution on top of it. Writing code nowadays is not a very big task if one is equipped with clear thoughts on what is being asked. That agains come back to how well we know what the end user might want and so what is the business behind it.

In my experience, its helpful to go into your QA system and try to follow a process from start to end (E2E process flow). Check on the relevant master data which needs to be accurate and filled in order for the process to work. A simple example are transfer orders in procurement. Try to check out the data and see from where to where an item gets transferred and what master data needs to be set up for this process to work properly.
