In my experience, I am seeing a lot of “canned art” being produced by AI . It is missing the impulsive beauty that is created by human artists, musicians, etc. that do not follow the patterns that are created by a machine. In practice, there are things that a machine can achieve. I use some of them. But for real added beauty and awe, the human element cannot be reproduced. It is spontaneous, impulsive, surprising and incredible. There must be heart and soul. I look forward to an AI that cleans my house, sorts and does the laundry, does budgeting, takes out the trash, and lets me have more time to be creative.

Creative thinking is fostered by allowing students to get creating. Practicing any art form can enhance self esteem and self knowledge. 'Know thyself' is fundamental to a successful life. From pre school to eventual graduation, self expression and discipline enhance our humanity and coping mechanisms in navigating the fluctuations of life. It is of supreme importance to honor the developmental age and use creativity when developing an arts curriculum.

You might find slides of earlier artists’ work that is enough to encourage taking a step beyond what they see from the past, or how they might embellish on the apparent thoughts of the past artists’ creations.

What is more creative than applying your own view of a subject. There are many ways to depict a subject be it realistic, abstracted or anything in between tween. Putting your own take on a subject is about as creative as a person can get.

As an art educator, having several students work out a response to an assignment allows them to volunteer, designate and work as a group to complete the project. I assigned a group project using landscape plastic and tape to create a 3-D object. Some drew, some cut out the shapes, others taped segments together. They completed a life size mammoth in plastic with a fan blowing air into it.

Hands-on embodied experiences are dwindling, not only in schools but in our lives in general. This is a great loss for us, and particularly for those students who might excel in these fields. Give your students a chance to experience creative industries and creative practice - it is empowering to work with your body and to see your hands build and construct and bring an idea to life. I have seen busy school groups enjoying our space and excellent tuition here, it is a great day for the teachers too! And who knows, some students may go on to join our jewellery industry in their future careers :)

Take children to art museums for field trips. When I was in school, we had a field trip to see a beautiful exhibition by Andrew Wyeth and I remember it to this day. Another time, I saw an exhibit advertised at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and I asked my parents if I could see it. They took me to the Corcoran and I still remember that interesting art show to this day! Field trips are wonderful experiences for children to experience art.

It is vital to understand the cultural behaviors of the learner and then plan to incorporate activities and protocols that validate and affirm those cultural behaviors. For example, many people come from cultures that have an oral tradition as opposed to written tradition. For this reason, discussion must be included in the learning process. Validating and affirming discussion and sociocentrism through instructional activities first and then building and bridging to written exercises will provide learners with a well-rounded learning experience that honors the learner.
