I totally disagree with the fact that traditional methodologies should be practiced. Rather, Agile practices, like Scrum, are highly required today to be agile and competitive. One such scenario would be that a Scrum Master certification would show an employer that a particular person really nailed the skill, and therefore he becomes a top pick on their list looking to fine-tune his agile processes.

As I am growing in my project management career, I have found that leadership skill is essential in PM. Project management is all about being a good leader where you can support your team to achieve more and stay focused. You bring the team together. You stand for your team and the team support you to complete the project within the timeline. They communicate the complexities and impediments with you. As a leader, you resolve the project blockers. Aa a leader, you inspire others to believe in themselves that makes impossible tasks possible. Developing leadership skills help us to lead large teams and lead large-scale projects.

Communication: Clear and transparent communication. Emotional Intelligence: Understanding and empathizing with others. Decision-Making: Making informed and timely decisions. Adaptability: Being flexible and open to change. Empowerment: Delegating and recognizing team achievements.

What dawned on me is the importance of emotional intelligence in having to deal with different teams and maintaining good relations with stakeholders. On the other hand, I doubt the efficiency of the purely directive type of leadership; empathy and inspiration, but not sheer commanding, are a hallmark of contemporary project management. One practice that I have seen work really well is the management of conflict with emotional intelligence. Not only is the issue resolved, but often team cohesion and trust will strengthen afterward.

Risk management is also an important skill to learn and adapt to. Every project has its own weight of risk, both technically and commercially. Both play a sharp-edged sword to a project leader. Apart from project technical and commercial in-depth knowledge, you should also learn about people's psychology on all sides, like clients, vendors, colleagues, management, finance, logistics, etc. One mishap could spread like a wildfire, and it becomes a trap for you. So, learn the art of doing a risk management assessment, draft a plan, and discuss it with the right stakeholders. Nail it off at the earliest; otherwise, it may nail you down.

One of the major insights that I have learned is the fact that active use of risk management tools in identifying and reviewing potential issues early enough at the beginning averts expensive delays, thus helping to keep projects running on schedule. On the other hand, I believe it is dangerous to underestimate or ignore the risks that may be there; any project will require a comprehensive risk evaluation if it is going to be completed successfully. One approach that works in practice is applying the risk mitigation strategies regularly. This underlines your ability to think ahead but strengthens your commitment to delivering successful outcomes.

Focus on soft system methodology- It is a lesser known approach that deals with managing complex human-centered projects. It emphasizes different perspective and conflicting interest of stakeholders.

My favorite phrase is never stop learning. Schools and colleges fail to impart valuable life lessons. Your sailing is safe after graduation. But re-sailing alone in a career. Here, you see a wild sanctuary where you happen to see many people with varied attitudes. You should know about the "Crab Technique." Learn about different tools and ensure you master something on those tools with an edge. Why? Because sometimes the boss may not know much about it. Here, you can take the lead. It happened to me. That's why I am writing here. You should also learn about people. Because, behind tools, HMI (Human Mind Interface) is important. You can't learn at institutes. It's a self-learning process. You need to master it if you want to be successful.

The buzzword "networking" is a must to learn and implement. You may be an introvert while involved in the projects, but try to nurture another skill: how to become an extrovert. As you know, everyone has both combinations in their attitude. Whichever is dominant over a period, then it brings a result for themselves as well as for teams. Dare to face and accept deficiencies. But try to learn what you missed out on or what others have commented on. Then you show you are networking, not net-wronging? You can develop relationships with anyone when you learn the art of networking. Your attitude matters the most. You need to deflate your EGO. Then you win.
