Due to physician shortages the locum world is expanding and become more common - to work efficiently dont try to re-invent the wheel at each new assignment; respect the practices of the institution and use the practice extenders and residents to help you learn the lay of the land. For day to day work: the see the sickest patient first and post op my acronym is FOOD: talk to family ; orders; op note and then diction. Sticking to this formula keeps me out of the weeds. And I try not to touch anything twice - so dont put off something for tomorrow or that can be done now or before you leave the hospital. No one wants to come back to do another physicians clean-up.

Technology has also made doctors work very easy and effective. The Electronic Medical/Health Records (EMR/EHR) has been beneficial to my company a lot as it helps us to get quick access to patients health records in a giffy. It's like; bye bye to paperwork.
