Being successful while working remotely requires structure, self-discipline, and a well thought out daily/weekly plan. I try to prioritize the most difficult projects for the beginning of the week to ensure that I am leveraging my best focus and energy, while also making meaningful progress on the most important deliverables first. Unforeseen issues may come up throughout the week, so being able to shift my schedule and less pressing items is key to my ability to fulfill my commitments. I have also learned to establish realistic boundaries with clients, colleagues and family members to ensure that my work/life balance remains manageable, realistic and I'm able to fulfill all of my commitments.

Delegate tasks to your team based on their strengths, limit distractions, and schedule regular check-ins to stay updated. Managing your tasks is key to a productive day, and it’s something you might need to tweak as things change. I love using the Eisenhower Matrix to figure out what needs to get done first. Once you’ve got your priorities set, be sure to timebox your tasks. And don’t forget to leave some room for breaks and meals!

Setting clear boundaries transformed my remote work experience by improving my productivity and well-being. Initially, I struggled with the overlap between work and personal life, but defining strict working hours and creating a dedicated workspace made a significant difference. To set boundaries for remote leader, I believe we need: First: establish clear expectations. Don't make it mess. Make it clear. It makes life easy. Second: communicate. Communication is helping to build strong boundaries. Talk to each other. Find time to understand. Third: Focus on what is matter. Encourage your team and teach them how to focus on what is really matter.

In addition to setting boundaries, spend time discussing the importance and benefits of setting boundaries. People often don't adhere to boundaries because they view them as arbitrary markers. Building meaning into your own and others' boundaries is key in setting boundaries that are attached to healthy behaviors.

There's a plethora of technology options, which can make choosing the most useful technology tools rather difficult. Divide team member's tasks into 2 categories: 1. Perfunctory but necessary and 2. Essential. Essential tasks comprise the key elements of that person's role. Look for technologies that help to automate perfunctory tasks so that essential tasks can be centered. Use this criteria will help to ensure that you're not using technology tools simply because they're available or interesting, but rather because they are contributing to increasing the quality of the essential nature of each team member's role.

Tools like project management software, communication platforms, and scheduling apps help me stay organized, streamline workflows, and maintain seamless communication with my team, regardless of where we are. I also invest time in staying updated on new tools and technologies that could enhance our efficiency. To delegate wisely we need to build a powerful tasks management. This is what I believe: 1. Empower and trust. Give team the authority to make decisions related to their tasks. 2. Monitor Progress. A leader represents the team and assumes full responsibility for their actions and outcomes. Merely delegating tasks to team members is insufficient; a leader must also have a clear action plan. It's crucial to continuously monitor task progress through regular stand-up calls, maintain progress reports, and provide feedback when necessary. By re-evaluating for future tasks, we ensure a smooth journey without obstacles towards our goal.

Some things I have found helpful in leading remote teams include: - Setting metric expectations for work productivity in advance and making these expectations shared by all. - Allowing teams to self report on the above expectations on a regular cadence. - Assigning peer to peer audits of work completion on a rotating basis. - Being sure to not micromanage on a daily basis, but rather examine your metrics over time, and hold accountable those that fall short. These tactics not only help your teams to be successful, but help to better organize your time and effort as a leader as well.

Encourage and provide opportunities for ongoing learning and development for yourself and your team. Regularly review your time management strategies and make adjustments as needed. Solicit feedback from your team to identify areas for improvement.

Reflection is the most powerful way to learn and to continuously improve yourself. Doesn’t matter in which sense or if it is business related or in private. We all have blind spots or habits that are hindering us to be a better us.

You need to create a constant 360 degree feedback environment. Trial something, take the feedback, reflection, tweak and go around again. Involve your team in the feedback, implement their thoughts and Ideas.

One of the most powerful ways to be a remote leader - is self assessment. The concept of self coaching can be powerful here. Ask yourself questions like "what is working?" "what is slowing down progress" and even "what have I learned in the last week?" Adding journaling or bullet journaling (a shortened way to journal) makes regular reflect powerful. It also speeds up your growth and development as a remote leader.

A good alternative is to use auditing teams. Trained employees from an interdisciplinary background. They are neutral and improve the ability to accept criticism.

Effective time management as a remote leader can feel like trial and error. it ultimately requires discipline to maintain (and/or modify) the systems you put in place. It is easy to revert to old habits; so discipline is critical. Part of this includes getting feedback from members of your team, your manager and peers. As a remote leader, you are setting the culture for your team, it will take time and discipline to do so.

It’s helpful to use scheduling tools to establish a balance and focus in remote leadership. Because our calendars are often public in remote settings, things can get scheduled back to back with no breaks or work time. Scheduling in focus time and break times can be very helpful to avoid this. Creating shared focus time when possible, and keeping meetings efficient is also important to managing and creating a culture of vitality for a remote team. It can also be helpful to chunk workflow in single function buckets per day if you support multiple areas. It’s impossible to keep to a rigid schedule, but it’s helpful to set up a schedule for balance and focus when possible. Remote teams can also benefit from creating a shared vitality statement.
