Here's how you can effectively manage deadlines as an oil and gas professional.

Prioritisation of task should be considered (based on my experience and understanding): 1. Urgency + Safely measure 2. Sequencing should be based upon a measured timeline ( shorter to longer time should be considered) 3. Optimum resource utilisation 4. Leveraging technology with the use case and analysing the current situation. The level of prioritising any task can differ with the role and responsibilities you cater to the organisation. Being a consultant I can stretch my analytical skills to a certain level of my exposure.

When analyzing practices for oil and gas projects, it's important to clarify whether we're considering the operator company's or the contractor's perspective, as each operates in a different environment. With their high-profit margins, operator companies often have a low degree of project management maturity, so missed deadlines and cost overruns are minor concerns for them. On the other hand, contractors rely on project execution for revenue and usually have higher project management maturity, making them sensitive to missing deadlines and cost overruns. This difference in project management maturity is a primary cause of project delays in the oil and gas industry.

Throughout my career, I always thought time management should be one of my focus. As a professional of more than 20 years working in the energy sector, I can tell you with no shot of a doubt that your ability to define priorities and to maintain focus under these priorities are key to getting things done in our industry. Deadlines are part of the game either you deal with them or you find something else to do that is simple.

Proper planning Might not solve all the problems you will face but I can assure you that I will give you visibility in enough flexibility to change the role if necessary. From the very beginning planning ahead was something I put in my agenda every single day I used to spend at least 30 minutes at the beginning of my day chew elect the five most priority tasks I needed to be done during the day everything else is secondary. Then if I need to change something because in the middle of the day there is something else I need to solve I can statistically put in one task in front of the other until I know the most important we'll get that doesn't matter if anything else happens during the day. It does work for me!

Make sure that the deadlines you set are clear, specific, and achievable. Involve your team in the deadline-setting process to ensure buy-in and commitment. Break down the project into smaller tasks with their own deadlines. This will help you track progress more effectively and identify any potential delays early on.

One of the things that I need to work on in my tasks is the ability to be concise and clear. It depends on how you are I am very detailed sometimes more than I should but this is me. And I guess for me this is the first thing you need to understand - You need to understand exactly who you are as a communicator. Once I realized that I would like to get the minimal details of everything I reconfigure myself to adapt my communication to whatever my audience is. I need to keep reminding myself who I am communicating with before I write or say anything and that helped me a lot not only to send the proper message but at the end of the day to get the things I want to be done. Done!

Communication is key. Clearly communicate the deadlines to all team members and stakeholders. Ensure that everyone understands the importance of meeting these deadlines and the consequences of not doing so. A collaborative environment is important, where team members feel comfortable sharing progress updates, challenges, and ideas. To encourage communication allows so that issues can be addressed before they become major roadblocks.

This is the easy one for me technology has been with me since I can remember. From notes two apps that help me to measure how I spend my time I often use digital tools not only to monitor what I do but also to give me tips on how can I improve it every single day. One of the features that I'm using right now is OneNote from Microsoft all my notes I'm doing every single morning and before I go to sleep every evening and I have access to everything on my cell phone gives me at least a free and easy insight about the most important topics I'm dealing with any given day. But technology is not the only thing you do with technology so I'm still writing my insights with my voice summarizing everything that I learned.

I have been working for several years as a key account manager in my company and even though I don't have a direct routine I have to delegate some tasks eventually. Today it is much easier for me because I not only delegate but I spend some time with the person who will take the task explaining how he or she is inserted into the whole embroidery strategy. I think the key message here is not only if you can delegate something but if you are also open to delegating and instructing the person you are delegating the task in the first place. The simple reason for that is you want people to understand what they are aggregate value otherwise it's much easier you do yourself.

Indeed delegation is crucial to meeting deadlines. Analyzing the nature of tasks at hand and the resources (in terms of your people) helps you understand as a professional what needs to attended to yourself and what needs to be delegated. Successful delegation is contingent upon ensuring the team member understands the nature of the task, and indeed why they are doing it. While this may entail additional time on your end, it ensures the individual feels a sense of inclusion to a bigger picture and not just being passed on “additional work”. Creating that sense of importance gives a higher likelihood that the individual completes the task on a timely basis and to the stated levels of expectations.

Is important to identify and address Issues early. If you notice that a task is falling behind schedule, address the issue promptly. Work with the team member responsible for the task to understand the reasons for the delay and come up with a plan to get back on track.

There is none, and should be no difference between managing deadlines in any industry. In any case, here’s what has worked for me: while defining timelines on assigned projects, try to take dependencies and the corresponding delay caused by them into account.
