Here's how you can effectively lead and motivate teams in the Food & Beverage industry as a project manager.

1.) Be specific with goals, do not generalize. Generalizing assumes everyone knows everything, they don’t. Your job is to make sure they not only get the knowledge but watch them make it work in practice. Asking them doesn’t do that, watching them do it successfully does. 2.) Write the goals down for ALL to see. There can be no secrets, not “gotchas”, failure is on YOU, not your team. 3.) Team member development plans should clearly state their specific goals as they relate to the entire team, but just as important, how to accomplish them (step by step instruction - never assume knowledge), ensure your team is given the knowledge they need to succeed. That too is on you!

In my experience it’s just not about creating goals but showing the team what’s in it for them as well as the company. Reaching a goal is great but if it’s a company goal that the crew doesn’t benefit or understand how they benefit from they will lose morale and their investment into the company. So while Smart Goals are a great thing to use the reason and the rewards behind them matter just as much to you and your team. Make them get invested.

Lead by example? What does that mean? To some it means working side by side doing exactly what your team does. It may be more productive to show them how to do each task, then ask one or two of their co-workers for their input on performing the task. I have found everyone does things a bit uniquely. If someone is successful, allow them to share their expertise with others. Your job isn’t to be the best at every task, it is to ensure your team has every tool available to be successful and that they know how to use every tool properly. En mi experiencia, fomentar una comunicación de 2 vías, ha sido relevante; dar el espacio para que los integrantes del equipo puedan aportar nos permite ver las cosas desde otra perspectiva; más aún siendo el equipo el que está en contacto directo con el cliente. Communication is important, but how do you communicate with all sorts of different people? People come from diverse backgrounds, education, experience, etc. Knowing your people is critical, know their background, their experience, what is important to them and WHY?!!? I have found that asking each person their “life story” if you will, gives me a lead on how to communicate with them individually. Some will be reluctant to open up, but stick with it, they might just become your greatest teammate because you cared enough to want to know them. It has to be genuine, it can’t be a gotcha nor anything but the desire to communicate effectively with that individual. Anything more and they could find you intrusive or worse an EX employer.

Open communication is when senior managers and other workers in an organization express their ideas, issues, and thoughts with one another in a steady, honest, transparent, and reliable manner. This way, teams can avoid surprises, resolve conflicts, and collaborate better

A leader who leads by example positions himself as a credible person who deserves to be respected and trusted by the seniors and juniors. This trust creates a sense of safety and security among team members, who are more likely to be open and honest with their leader

A good leader should have the skill set necessary to succeed and help his/her follower to achieve their goal. He/she is the one who should be on the floor to flip burgers, sweep the floor . Demonstrate the work ethic you except from your team.A good leader should be the one who is willing to take responsibility and accepts criticism from others. Be the first to open the door and last to leave.

Making sure people have every tool and the knowledge to use those tools in their current job isn’t enough. If you know your people, you know what their personal goals are as well as what their job entails. Make damn sure you not only know their personal goals but get them the additional training, education, whatever it takes to ensure they can accomplish those goals, even if it means you have to do their job for a bit. It won’t kill you, it will just let your team know you really are there for them. Because the bottom line is something like this: If you want to get what you want out of life, you must first make sure those around you get what THEY want. Accomplish that and you win every time!

Be engaged, open to encourage the team to challenge themselves. Be creative with your ideas. The leader should thank them whenever possible for small things to big achievements.Make sure the team is family, show them how much you care about their wellbeing.

Recognition and Rewarding program and initiatives goes a long way. In other words your team are more keenly operating with a details in mind to beat capability. This not only makes an employee happy and valued but sets and example and fosters integrity at the workplace. Apart from giving the message to the whole team, this encourages a healthy competition and space to be the best at what you do, keeping in my that the competition is to improve and grow each other as a team.

Reward success, make sure they own it. A good leader should own setbacks and share successes. The leader exhibit good moral character in his actions.

Para comenzar, debemos tener muy definidos los objetivos, para el cliente no hay mejor experiencia que un excelente servicio, calidad y cuidado al manejar su producto. En mi experiencia el cliente siempre quiere velocidad, costo, presentacion y calidad. Asi mismo debemos tener sentido de urgencia tal como nos gustaria nos atiendan a nosotros.

Definir Metas Definir metas claras é essencial na gest?o de projetos na indústria de alimentos e bebidas. Estabele?a objetivos SMART (Específicos, Mensuráveis, Alcan?áveis, Relevantes e Temporais) para orientar a equipe. Discuta essas metas regularmente e assegure que todos entendam seu papel e a importancia desses objetivos. Essa clareza promove propósito e dire??o, crucial para manter a motiva??o e alinhamento com a vis?o do projeto.
