However, more often than not it's not up to your boss to outline the goals, it's yours! My recommendation, you should outline the goals and get your bosses alignment. These goals should be clear & concise: - Pipeline, brand awareness etc. - Number of contacts - Number of attendees - Number of sponsors - Number of samples - Social posts/proof Few examples ^

Questions I ask that support this: 1. What are you hoping for this event to celebrate or showcase? 2. How can we get the right people to the event? 3. How can we make the event worth their time?

I emphasize aligning with leadership's vision for events. For a recent cultural diplomacy event, I engaged our Consul General to understand her definition of success—whether it was attendee engagement, cultural highlights, or media coverage. To gain clarity, I asked: What are the top priorities? Who is the target audience? How will success be measured? What themes should be communicated? What is the budget? What activities or sessions are envisioned? How should we promote the event? What media coverage is desired? What follow-up actions are important? This approach ensured a well-executed, impactful event.
