There is a need to understand pedagogical affordances of various digital tools then align them with educational needs. The 'shoot and miss' approach is not working and also putting the 'cart before the horse' situation is problematic. Digitalization must follow the educational needs.

One thing I found helpful is to make a list of new tools or experiences and brainstorm the usability and/or value they bring to the learning experience. Looking at different examples instagate new ideas and possibilities and sometimes a tool that you thought could not work in your environment does work because you took some time to explore new ideas.

E-learning is a curious phenomenon defined by sensible, measured, evidence informed and practical approaches that work and produce results, combined with crazy unexpected not-quite-tested, creative innovations. The key to success in this territory is to approach the situation with a measured intelligent, creative, and confident tone and method. It is important that you have support from your context, that is your opinions and decisions are listened to - with the aim of producing innovative e-learning. This is so true and need to be prioritized. I found that teams set out with good intentions to do so, and then time and work pressure force us back to our own little corners.

Listen to understand. What do people actually need, want? What are they doing currently, and how would change affect their learning pathways, their workflows? I work in a Library, and it can be very interesting to review what questions users ask in our virtual chat. It gives a good sense of what people's 'stuck points' are, and even how they think about a topic—not necessarily what we think they need, or the way that we approach it! But for our learning resources to be effective, we have to design them to address their needs, in the way they want to see them.

Completion, feedback or test scores are very traditional ways of tracking the utilization of training but can these really reflect on the effectiveness of the Learning? With more organisations inclining to learning culture over training culture, the data analytics should also include qualitative and quantitative data points on business outcomes, skill improvement, csat/nps or improved Employee Engagement/satisfaction.

In 1997, I founded the online learning initiative at the University of Illinois Springfield. I often shared examples when meeting with colleagues to illustrate this then-novel approach to teaching and learning. The most powerful leading-by-example instance I experienced was that of our university chancellor, Dr. Naomi Lynn, who wrote faculty campus-wide to announce that she was going to attend my class on "Internet for Educators" and that she encouraged others to join her. That was the moment that we knew that online learning was to become an important part of our future. Now online accounts for about half the credit hours.
