To cultivate a strong work ethic through internships in Servant Leadership, the approach involves setting clear expectations and goals, providing comprehensive training, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment, modeling and teaching ethical behavior, empowering interns with responsibility, offering feedback and recognition, promoting continuous improvement and work-life balance, as well as mentoring and guiding. Servant Leadership involves putting the interest of others first. It is not about what one will get from an engagement, but how one leaves the other person better than they found them. Internships are normally used as stepping stones into career growth. However, with servant leadership, the intern should leave the organization in a better way than they found it. This means going beyond what the normal JD would require. It means looking out for the interests of the organization as well as the fellow workers and ensuring that service is above self in every action that is taken within the organization. Values like time management, integrity among others play a big role on the organizational growth and wellbeing.

There's lots of different ways to approach this topic. However, I found that humility and the approach of staying open and not knowing everything allowed me to work hand in hand with my interns as we were serving each other. Once they knew I was on the same level as they were, they were more open to contributing some challenging and interesting ideas that I didn't even think were possible. If I had taken any other approach they may not have opened up. I believe humility is at the core of a good servant leader and an intern should be able to see that demonstrated through consistent daily actions.

I believe that it is important to teach them to consistently seek ways to add value and contribute meaningfully to the team and organization. Lead by example, demonstrating a strong work ethic yourself, and practice active listening to foster understanding and empathy. Offer encouragement and validation for good work and ideas, building confidence and motivation. Create a sense of community by providing opportunities for collaboration and helping interns understand the impact of their work. Empower them to take initiative and ownership of their tasks, fostering a proactive attitude.

One thing I found helpful when receiving feedback and communicating both ways, is that I was often surprised at the depth and insight I would receive from a servant leader intern. A great example was shifting my communication style in order for my feedback to be well received but also to receive feedback with an open mind and heart. Ultimately, I learned as much as the intern did through the feedback process.

In a Servant Leadership style, before giving Feedback its always advised to take feedback first and then give feedback. reason for saying that is because when we give feedback and however the feedback is positive, it can always have a negative impact, so best is to take feedback first and then give feedback

In servant leadership, we seek to help others grow by helping to meet their needs, to fill knowledge and skill gaps, and giving them appropriate challenges. If you do not foster a strong relationship with your interns, you cannot truly assess what they need for growth and support. If your interns feel like you are providing them with the best opportunities for their personal goals and meeting them where they are at, they will work harder and be of greater service to your organization, because your organization is being of greater service to them. It is also important to foster these relationships so that the interns will feel comfortable showing you ways in which you or the organization can grow. Servant leadership is a two-way street.

Frontline employees who feel supported by managers who cultivate a climate of care are more likely to help establish for customers. The benefits of authentic relationships is not only a rewarding personal feeling but also smart business.

Maintaining Professional relationship is the toughest job I have seen with my experience and reason I say is because there is very thin line between maintaining a professional and encroaching on the privacy of a person. We need to very careful in approaching a person and ensure that we always give space for opposite person to breathe. :)

In contrast to classic leadership, where the boss or board is the top priority, the servant leadership principle turns the approach around. The managers give up decision-making powers and support the company through targeted support and the development of a positive environment that enables the team to perform well.

I believe it's true that you should live out your principles and be consistent and congruent if you're going to step into the servant leadership world. Since all eyes are on you and the question is do you really believe what you say and do you follow through with your daily actions? This is truly leading by example.

Reflection is strongest when it is paired in a sequence of action-reflection (being specific about connecting experience to reflection). It's essential to reflect on the context of situations and to be able to articulate how one can and will be better in the future: to fail forward and to celebrate successes with thought and intentionality of being our best selves in the future so we can best support the people we serve.

Part of this is strengthening and deepening a commitment to serving people authentically by reflecting on the impact of our actions. Did we make a positive impact for those we serve? Leaning into our weaknesses and vulnerabilities ,and seek ways those we serve can help guide us to be better at serving.

This is one of my favorites! One of the core elements of a good intern and even a good servant leader is are they a continual learner? Life is fluid and things are always in motion. Can you keep up with the times and the events and everything else going on around you while still maintaining a servant's heart? I found that if I can instill this in a good intern then they will be a lifelong learner and will excel ahead of their peers for the rest of their career.
