Here's how you can cultivate the key qualities employers seek in future leaders.

Visionary thinking is about inspiring others to see and share in your vision. Technique: Goal Alignment. Set Clear Goals: Establish clear, ambitious goals for yourself and your team. Communicate with Passion: Share these goals with enthusiasm and clarity. Highlight Roles: Explain how each team member’s role contributes to the larger vision. Foster Shared Purpose: Create a sense of collective purpose by aligning individual tasks with the overall vision. Motivate and Inspire: Encourage your team to see the bigger picture and strive for excellence. By fostering a shared sense of purpose, you can motivate your team to achieve more and demonstrate your potential as a future leader.

In a world of AI, future leaders will need to be connectors of people - what is called relational intelligence. If emotional intelligence is the ability to have self awareness, relational intelligence is the ability to have other awareness. Future leaders can develop this quality by encouraging and coaching their teams, building trust and creating a healthy environment, loving their teams and showing compassion, and connecting individuals and teams to generate innovation and future change.

When teaching the concept of EQ to leaders, I spend a fair amount of time sharing approaches and tools they can use to examine their thinking and to encourage their teams to do the same. Inclusive leadership requires an ‘inside out’ mindset. Enabling others to fully contribute their talents, especially when innovation is your goal, requires a leader to diligently monitor and suspend their natural assumptions to remain open to novel and/or alternative points of view

Emotional intelligence is the ability to understand and manage your own emotions and recognize and influence the emotions of others. Technique: Empathy Practice. Self-Awareness: Regularly reflect on your own emotions and reactions to understand them better. Practice Empathy: Make an effort to see things from others' perspectives and show genuine concern for their feelings. Active Listening: Pay close attention to what your team members are saying, including non-verbal cues. Value Input: Demonstrate that you value their input and understand their perspectives by acknowledging and acting on their feedback.

For George Terry (1960), leadership is the activity of influencing people by making them voluntarily commit themselves to group goals. This definition seems to be valid for any type of organization, because in any situation in which an individual seeks to influence the behavior of another individual, we are faced with the phenomenon of leadership

Without decisions, there is no progress. Seeing a leader struggle with decision-making is the surest way for team members to lose trust. But that doesn't mean a leader can't involve the team in decision-making. What counts here is finding the best solution, not who came up with it, so put the ego aside and focus on team success.

Empathy, self-control, and social cognition are tools of social intelligence that rely on attention. There are four distinct aptitudes identified as the components of interpersonal intelligence. They are: Organizing groups.  Negotiate solutions. Personal connection. Social analysis. Thus, social responsibility begins here and now, each time our actions contribute to creating optimal states in others, both in people we casually cross paths with and in those we care for and love.

Understanding strategic adaptability, as a Leader in an environment that is constantly changing, is key. My suggestions are: 1.Knowing how you respond to change and whether this helps or hinders you/your team. 2.Making judgements with precision timing so a successful pivot can be implemented as and when necessary. 3.Being skilled in demonstrating behavioural flexibility to meet expectations in delivering high performance under pressure.

The best leaders are lifelong learners. Technique: Structured Development Plan. Identify Learning Goals: Determine areas where you want to expand your knowledge and skills. Seek Opportunities: Look for professional development opportunities such as formal education, workshops, and online courses. Self-Directed Learning: Allocate time for reading, research, and self-study in your areas of interest. Stay Curious: Cultivate an open-minded attitude and willingness to explore new topics and ideas. Track Progress: Regularly review and adjust your learning plan to ensure continuous growth. By showing a commitment to growth, you signal to employers that you are ready to tackle leadership challenges now and in the future.

Embracing continuous learning is essential for leadership development. As a leadership coach, I recommend creating a 'learning agenda' for your team, where each member commits to a personal development goal and regularly shares their progress. This practice not only fosters a culture of accountability but also highlights the importance of lifelong learning. Encourage your team to step out of their comfort zones and explore new areas of interest. Challenge each member to apply their new knowledge in practical ways to benefit the team.

The true leader is consistent, he has worked deeply on his ego and when bad situations arise, he remains firm in his scale of values and in his loyalty. How does it get to this state? Through introspection. Anyone who wants to lead a team must do a deep exercise of self-knowledge. The key to leadership is to try to figure out what your needs are and learn how to manage them. Get in touch with your emotions to recognize and manage them, rather than allowing them to interfere in your daily life. Take responsibility for your actions and don't throw balls away. Another key point is self-acceptance. The recognition of what you are. This acceptance that gives you the right to make mistakes and recognize them naturally.

Be the role model. Demonstrate mastery in everything you do / be. Ask great questions. Be the consumate listener. Offer constructive feedback. Be generative in your approach by starting sometNPhing and allowing others to get involved and bathe in the success. Encourage collaboration and leveraging foresight and opportunities. Teach the principles of systems thinking and practice. Be the change and help others to complete the transformation. Ooze optimism and potential to succeed. Be grateful and gracious.
