You will need to do the work your boss expects, the work as you believe it should be done, and the work that lies somewhere between the two. You will need to slowly push, failing often, in an attempt to subtly change the work. at first only by a small amount. Many people have a hard time accepting this. Nothing changes overnight. People say Rome wasn't built in a day and that the Grand Canyon didn't appear overnight. What they do not say is how long these marvels took to build...

Clear language can be a misnomer. You have to speak the language of your boss. You have to show and guide and manage. You have to engage in communication long before the ideas are shown. You need to bring the receipts; these have had more success, these are easier to read, this is an idea that's building across the category. You are a teacher. You are managing up. You are helping the team become better. There will be a lot of nos. There will be a lot of failure. There will be a lot of redoing the same concepts before even the idea of change will come to light.

There is no right time or moment. Every time is the wrong time. And yet, every time is the right time. Understanding your boss and your workplace is key to approaching anything. You must be malleable and ready as the chance may come out of the blue. I find it helpful to always present my ideas. Many times I do so at the wrong moment. But you learn... and grow.
