Well with the experience I can definitely say that keeping track of your work is always going to help you, being your emails, drawings or even sketches. And as in for this topic make sure that your documents (for example in working drawings, or concept sheets, etc.) should have your name in it, and not just the company's name or your seniors name. As a designer, I hope to find myself in places where collaboration in ideation and process is key, and individual ideas matter less. I actually find the premise of this whole question a bit odd. When you work for a company, they own the content and ideas you create while working for them. I have been on both sides of this, having used ideas my team generated and also contributed ideas that I didn't get credit for as an individual. Ideally we are all working in a place where we can be generous with our ideas and leaders are generous with rewards and credit.

If your work is worthwhile enough for someone to take credit for, it already means you're ready to break glass ceilings sooner or later. In this day and age, skilled work doesn't roam around longer without ultimately revealing the identity of the worker. Genuine contributions are rare.? One needs to avoid any confrontation in such situations but shouldn't forget to keep revisiting one's procedures to check how one's work could be secured with identity and due credit.? The clear answer is: you can't. I have had this experience and it led me to lose my job but landed me the opportunity to create my own company and make my own reputation. You can't win in this circumstance and stay in your job, no matter how you approach it. The person above you may have ties with those above him or her and will still make it difficult in your job if you escalate. When this happens, it is time to look for your next job.

I think a consideration is - what's at stake in relation to the 'credit'. Are you allowed to append your name to tasks executed by you? Any coveted/substantial awards or certifications that you might lose if you lose this credit? The processes listing in 1-6 above are various ways to go, but to what end? Most people desire credit for an over bloated sense of self whereas, contentment knowing you accomplished this thing should already be substantial credit, for starters. Weighing the trade off on who gets credit & the bestowment that comes with, should be a key factor in deciding how to deal with this. That being said, premptive measures as documenting & interlooping superiors through the process, can help keep things in perspective for all.

You can not care. It's always an option. People are peculiar creatures. Some eat, sleep, and breathe ideas like a faucet. Some consider stealing and undermining the same thing as work. The former will always get the better of the latter. No amount of theft or slander transfers talent. No single stolen idea makes a career. Tbh, be flattered. No one steals from anyone other than the best one in the room.

Consider asking your company early on in your position with them, how attributes are recognized and written when you are working as a team? How will your contributions be tracked for historical purposes? Not only will this be important for review time but also for your career overall. Even if they do have something in place it's wise to keep original sketches and meeting notes and you will be armed with back up should anyone try to take credit for your work. And unfortunately, from what I have seen, it's more likely to be a colleague and not the boss you have to be concerned about. Forge solid relationships with your team. No one who genuinely respects, and values you and your talent will do this intentionally or accidentally.
