It’s important to take in account that for teaching we have to dominate the topic, but obviously nobody knows everything so when we want to teach something we investigate some additional information to complement our current knowledge. In consequence, we are learning additional things with that investigation and of course we can learn a lot from the people we are going to teach.

Consider how much value your role brings to you as much as you bring to it. Maybe you’ve got a good amount of experience contributing and working within highly functional cybersecurity organizations - not every organization has that expertise. Be open to rolling that experience into something more consultative - it doesn’t need to be a consultant necessarily, but consider services delivery, technical account management, or even technical sales. Don’t take your experience for granted. You may think it’s table stakes, but you’d be surprised who doesn’t know what you know, and how valuable that experience can be.

I would take this up a notch and say, if you aspire to grow your career in network security (or any other field), LEAD change! Be the person who systematically and passionately challenge the status quo. The person who objectively understand the current state (and it's negative consequences) , articulate the future state (and it's positive outcomes) then find the right avenues to lead the change needed! Be realistic and take small steps where you have better chances to realize tangible and quantifiable value/outcome.
