Some time ago, 25 years to be precise, the role of Business Partner for finance professionals was a must, so much that the leading education institutions provided courses on the topic. In my experience this could be attained by getting as close as possible to the Commercial/Sales area. If the CFO is able to understand the initiatives building up in the business area and most importantly gain trust and confidence from the leaders, this will provide the base to become a Business Partner and thus impact the organization in a valuable way.
