I find that writing about the philosophy, values and ethics helps me to consider the extent to which my actions do or do not match up. It takes some real self-work to gain an honest sense of your own practical ethos.

The subject and material we teach is a good foundation to provide examples about the content that led us to consider teaching in the first place. For me, it’s literature because everyone has a story, and that resonates with my perception of community through shared stories. As I developed my teaching philosophy, I felt it was important to identify specific examples of literature that would be a part of my curriculum which also reveal core values in my teaching, such as Plato’s Allegory of the Cave. I agree with this statement. Over the years, I understand that being adapable to change is key in moving forward. An example of this was clearly evident during the covid years and lockdowns, when the world of teaching and learning was pushed online ro a new learning landscape. Teachers and learners, families, carers and guardians, sought new ways to foster the continuation of a positive learnjng environment and met the challenges head on. This time frame rocketed UDL and embedded IT into a digital landscape. But strategies were harnessed and tweeked by many, finding their pathways through disruptive but innovative change. Certainly seeds were planted here, that pushed the field of education through the lens of self reflective action.

I identify with the words of Greek writer Nikos Kazantzakis who believed that "true teachers are those who use themselves as bridges over which they invite their students to cross; then, having facilitated their crossing, joyfully collapse, encouraging them to create their own." That said, I encourage my students to take up teacher roles throughout our educational journey while I become their student. This way, as wise Solon stated, "I grow old while always learning"!

How you speak is equally important as what you speak. To impress the interviewers, it's crucial to articulate your teaching philosophy with confidence. This you can do only with adequate practice. There is no doubt that practice leads to better performance.. You can use a mirror or recorder or your friends to rehearse your delivery. Remember:The more you practice the better you become. It will help you understand your weak points. By improving those shortcomings, you can enhance confidence. By articulating your teaching philosophy confidently and naturally you can prove yourself to be a strong candidate for the position.
