Feedback is a gift. Listen more than you speak, and you will learn. Understand the perspective of the speaker and ask clarifying questions. Filter out the irrelevant unsolicited opinions. Focus on what you learn from the people who have been where you are or want to go and don't have a personal interest in the outcome. What you do with the feedback is 100% up to you.

As entrepreneurs, we are often asked to have an unimaginable amount of faith and belief in our ideas and vision to a point where it can cause blind spots for potential inefficiencies or faults in our ideas. Such overconfidence can make us complacent about our business plan, mission and overall success of our idea. I am in the process of creating a new business model with the co-beneficial point of getting people to use my patent-pending autonomous solar-powered recycling bin. My innovative idea was on the idea of recycling and litter management, which brought lots of criticism from the "unrealistic" nature to constructive criticism that brought efficiency to my model and a sight to my blind spots.

After I received extensive critique and criticism on my solar-powered recycling bin, I took a deep breath-- a literal deep breath and sat down for a moment. It is essential to not react impulsively in the moment and look at the reasoning behind the criticism than the criticism itself. If the reasoning makes sense to you, then even you, as an entrepreneur, will be happy and grateful to receive it. I introspected my model and considered every critique I got. I did my due diligence in vetting the credibility of those critiques and made a list of the ones that could be helpful and improve my model. Soon after, I had a list of things to work on that I would have otherwise missed due to a myriad of reasons like blind spots and confirmation bias.

This is a recent situation that I came across at work. We need to be aware of a fundamental fact that there exist diverse experiences, and perspectives with people coming with different backgrounds. There could have been positive or negative implications of similar ideas in their past. First and foremost, let us welcome them. Actively listen to the question, paraphrase to confirm the understanding, seek for specific references if exist, navigate through the prototype, ask for more time, schedule a follow up, involve right people or stakeholders who has big picture, and making sure the situations provided are relatable to the current context and not hypothetical.

Seeking clarification in a project is important for everyone to understand what's needed. When we ask questions, it helps us all learn and prevents misunderstandings. As a business analyst, it's my job to make sure the requirements are clear for everyone involved. This way, we can work together smoothly and achieve our goals effectively.

Think of your initial offer as a first draft. ?? It’s rare to nail the perfect product-market fit right away. Feedback helps you refine it. If customers feel your pricing is off, don’t scrap everything—rework it. Can you simplify or reframe the offer? Like tuning an instrument, small changes can make everything click. Feedback doesn’t kill your vision; it sharpens it.
