If you use Unity Game engine to create AR experience, then you definitely need to learn C#. When you design for AR, apart from the 2D screen UI/UX designs, you have to be good at 3D space UI/UX design or spatial design. That in itself is a special skill you have to be good at. One of the issues you will face is know what 3D coordinates to place your UI so that your users can have an immersive experience that is worthwhile.

The old adage is true: practice makes perfect. It doesn’t matter what type of tool you use, what matters is that you start using it and get comfortable with the limits of the software and hardware as well as your own limits. Best is to create the software and then actually “publish” it to a hardware platform of your choice. These days, with $300 mixed reality headsets, it is very easy. Remember, your customers with want both: a software package that is clean, adaptable as well as a nice experience in a number of hardware platforms.

With my first AR project, I substantially overshot my and my software's capability, however, this lead me to research and figure out alternatives and workarounds which made me an overall better problem solver, and gave me an excellent knowlege of the softwares I was working with and their capabilities.

Practice makes it perfect. Best way to gain experience is to develop your own AR apps. IMHO even with pilot AR apps you develop for the purpose of learning, you should still keep focus on the market you want to target. If you want to develop AR apps for medical staff training, try to design and develop simplest possible AR app that addresses needs for that market in some small capacity. That will give you valuable experience that is relevant to the market you want to target, on top of which you can upgrade by extending that app further.

It's not enough to simply know how to 'create' in the AR industry. The true power lies in understanding when to use AR and when to propose alternative solutions. This strategic discernment cannot be overlooked. By hyper-focusing on 'The Why' behind every conversation, you will undoubtedly set yourself apart from your peers.

Embrace agile, dispersed work teams focused on hiring for the project based on specific skills needed and an in-depth understanding of the end-user experience.

I think as an AR enthusiast, combining the imagination and practicing more in the basics, hoping one day my skill can pull off and make it all come true is the drive. To know the logic behind these, and also not to be taken by the "big data (big brother)", is important. This is considered to be a new kind of artwork, like hundreds of years ago when people created paintings, and poems, not to be taken away where the data is (completely) but to think what content can connect with the audience is the key.
