- Have a backup plan, like printed copies of your slides or notes, to stay on course if technology fails.
- Test all equipment beforehand and familiarize yourself with the setup to minimize surprises.

Technology should add to a presentation not be the presentation. A skilled presenter can keep calm and carry on regardless of what tech throws at them. Wasting the audiences time explaining that tech has failed or how you feel about that is indulgent. Knowing your material and knowing your audience helps. I have a sticky note on my laptop of the key points or stories I plan to share so that I am able to stay on track regardless of what technology is available. Five words on a small sticker can make all the difference!

I had a screen go dark in front of 2000 people. Also had all slides in three per page format w notes in front of me. Also riffed about AV people being given a chance to be heros. And finger shadow puppets. Heart rate was way up but having the visual cues carried the day. And have always been there more than 2000x.

“Those who have power in their point, do not need PowerPoint.” I as a Motivational Speaker .. Finds “it” a situation, an organic genuine situation to start the talk and break the ice .. it’s an opportunity to mark and exhibit a hands on experience- Live ..how to manage when things do not go your way…. Well.. Then.. It buys time..and you might go smooth .. If not … 1. I always keep the ppts or some data handy on my mobile phone which can be sent to the coordinators who can further send ahead and now everyone’s smart phones will do the trick.. 2. As I stated in the headline.. I don’t depend on ppts or tech.. it’s for my support ..for audience better focus ..but not indispensable.. 3. The Attitude “The one who knows his why can do any how”

A good motivational speaker should always anticipate technical issues even before he/she does their presentation. Anticipating them makes you ready to preempt them by having alternative means in place to mitigate the situation presenting itself. This presupposes that any good motivational speaker should be flexible and not rigid with the method of presentation, so long as the objective of the presentation is achieved.

Well I can answer this. It happened to me about 3 hours ago. The clicker they gave me was faulty. I had my own but they couldn't get working on their system so it was back to using their faulty one. click*click*??click*click*click*click ?? and on it went like this. What to do in this situation? SMILE and bring the audience in on it with you*click*click.."anyone want to lay a bet on how many clicks it will take this time??" Don't blame anyone, just try and turn a bad situation into a good one. the audience wants a good time. Give it to them.
