I developed an SOP, standard operating procedure for my buildings, this gives the staff the information they need to understand what goes on in the environment and how it happens, it also gives them the skills to carry on the task of looking after the building while you as FM are busy elsewhere, so there is continuity. This method I found also gave the staff the confidence to act properly and without confusion, and what the blowback might be if they did something wrong, it gave them guidance. As FM it gave me piece of mind when I was not on the site, and that the staff could do their work properly and serve the residents without holdup.

As an FM you need to be sure your time is being used properly and effectively, so reviewing your processes is important, it also assists in highlighting inefficiencies, and you might find an easier way to achieve your goal or tasks.
