In my opinion, the best concept of agribusiness comes from Ray Goldberg and his many books. Agribusiness, as Goldberg defines it, includes everything from production and processing to distribution and marketing of agricultural products. It’s not just about farming; it involves the entire network of interconnected sectors like input suppliers, equipment manufacturers, transportation, and food processing. His view creates a cohesive value chain, showing how all stakeholders are interdependent. Goldberg’s approach highlights the need for efficiency, innovation, and sustainability to meet global demands, making his concept the most holistic and forward-thinking.

So you want to move into Agribusiness? Unless you have money behind you, it is extremely difficult (at least in the UK). Becoming a new entrant farmer is challenging due to stratospheric land costs; either to buy or to rent. Securing capital is tough because of the significant initial investments needed for not only for land but for equipment and inputs. Market volatility leads to unpredictable income. Plus, regulations and grants can be overwhelming. New entrants often lack the knowledge required for effective farm management. Climate change increases unpredictable weather patterns (the flooding in the UK this year has been horrendous). All this sounds unremittingly negative... and yet it remains the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done.

Agribusiness sector offers a wide range of career options, starting from shop floor jobs to the plethora of entrepreneurial opportunities. It is very easy to switch job roles in early stage of career. However, once a person gets experienced in some particular job role, still there are good switching options in advisory and entrepreneurial roles.

Tenho visto muitos profissionais que n?o s?o originalmente do agronegócio tentando se reinventarem ou migrar para este universo. Ao meu ver alguns pontos s?o importantes a considerar: a) o sucesso em outros setores, n?o garante o sucesso no agronegócio, que é um negócio com muitas peculiaridades que s?o percebidas com tempo de carreira. Portanto, humildade para aprender e observar é míster para se dar bem nesse mercado. b) Escutar e aprender com os mais vividos. Vejo profissionais jovens, sem os devidos conhecimentos querendo al?ar posi??es de responsabilidade, e n?o raro com resultados à desejar. Por fim penso que um pouco de conhecimento técnico, ajuda muito, pois a agricultura é um "sistema de sistemas", e esse entendimento é crucial.
