I think when one is leading in admin roles he is setting pathways for others to follow, while in instructional roles it is confined to some limited roles, which when executed in efficient way can also set good trends of doing work. I think these are complimentary and good balance between them is required.

Truthfully, balancing both instructional and administrative duties is nonnegotiable. However, it is how we prioritize and share responsibilities with teams that makes the seemingly impossible manageable.

Balancing administrative tasks and instruction in a school setting can be very challenging. Here are a few ways that can help manage both of them effectively: 1. Prioritise your most important tasks and create a schedule that allocates specific time blocks for administrative work and lesson preparation. And follow that schedule. 2. Collaborate with colleagues to share resources and divide administrative responsibilities. 3. Develop and stick to classroom procedures that minimize time spent on non-instructional activities. 4. Prepare lessons and materials in advance, perhaps during less busy periods or breaks. 5. Take breaks and practice self-care to prevent burnout. Hope it helps!

The hardest thing for most leaders to do is focus on fewer things that will yield greater impact. This is sometimes referenced as the 80/20 rule. 80% of your impact will come from 20% of your initiatives. That’s a tough pill to swallow; 8 out of 10 things keeping us busy have very little impact. Rationally speaking, the more time you focus on one thing the more likely that one thing will realize your desired outcome.

Balancing the two is possible. While an efficient time management protocol would be a pre-condition, ability to delegate routine work and focus on instructional role will deliver the desired outcomes. Also, a shift in perspective where teaching, research and administration could be seen as an integrated function, should be of great help.
