While working on a long timeline, break the scope in milestone Your milestone should be linked with features or functionality Take regular feedback from BAs or end uses so you will understand the gaps between requirements and end products Prioritize the work with the help of business owners Keep highlighting the risks, issues to business owners and review the priorities on each milestone Have a conversation with Dev members, your seniors and BAs before you go to stake owners Published the regular status reports and have calls/ meetings with key personal Try to automate the representative tasks like regression test suits so you can save the time and provide full coverage for each of the scenarios Consider the performance scenario at the end

Apart from setting goals and tracking progress against the milestones, teams can stay motivated by doing things like 1. Explore innovative way of solving a complex problem. 2. Add value and impact by providing stakeholders insights into your progress by visual representations of progress, sharing metrics, effectiveness brought in etc 3. Switch modules you are testing with peers so that you learn different areas of the project 4. Collaborate with program managers/developers and identify any areas you can extend support to help deliver faster for overall project

One thing i found helpful is Learning new technologies that will increase the efficiency of testing and reducing the effort need for Manual process. Learning indeep about the project, so that we can came up with different different set of test cases and that will help us to do gray Box testing. I. e Fetching test data will take lots of time in Manual, i have implemented Salesforce query for test data retrieval

Learning new tools greatly boosts one's motivation and also help in achieving goals much faster. Engagement also increases while learning new skills which motivates in doing more stuff.

Communicate with the team - they can become good friends and it will be easier to work in a friendly environment rather in a silent community. Meeting can be more productive and burnout will be less seen a team that socialises. Solutions and meetings will be conducted in less formal manner but the subject of meeting and milestones will be more open from teammates - discussions will be conducted according to the subject that needs attention, not the management desire to show the organizational ceremonies.

I have two suggestions to deal in such situation , one of them related to the testing practice and the second for people management: - For practice , use session bases test management is better fit for long time period, divide the scope into charters and time-box the session with retro make the interaction high. - For people, rewards and permissions and hangouts with chocolates and snacks :)

To stay motivated one has to have the zeal of delivering the work with passion,respect and scrutiny. Don't compete against each other,customer satisfaction is all that matters at the end of the day.Have team building activities like team outing,team lunch or indoor and outdoor games,appreciation goodies,conduct learning sessions for people who like to grow technically,attend seminars,fun activities etc to keep the team feel engaged and motivated...I would vote for appreciation goodies..:P something which most of them like to show off.
