To keep budget within limit proposing always alternatives which are cost friendly and cost saving from the original scope. Contingencies could not be used for design change or requirement change. It is kept only for unforeseen reasons during the execution till DLP.

This many depends on the type of contract and the payment terms. If the project is Lump Sum, then initially I prepare the Cost Dashboard, I allocate the plausible budget for each item. From that onwards I determine each change whether its a claimable change or not and the cost implications.
