You’re working on a complex coding project. How can you avoid errors and streamline your workflow?

During your planning, ensure to break down your project into smaller pieces and define how you will test each task, setting clear criteria for acceptance. This approach will help you ensure the completion of your complex project coding without overlooking tasks and prevent the introduction of bugs that might require a lengthy investigation and fix.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I will have to say this: "Errors are inevitable" You can't avoid them but you can minimize on their frequency in your project. How? By proper planning. Planning involves: - Thinking about the architecture of your project. - Thinking about how you will test your app. I will expound on each point now. 1. Architecture A good architecture will: - encourage componentization, - modularity, - and decoupling ...which will make your project more error resilient. 2. Testing. For testing, plan to cover every feature in your project with: - unit tests -> to ensure each component performs as expected in isolation. - integration tests -> to ensure components integrate seamlessly. - end to end tests

Just don't, be agile. Errors will be made, better fail fast then work for weeks or months on the wrong path and have to revert everything.

Never rely on debugging to verify validity of your code. The only thing that can do that are test which are written before the actual code also known as TDD. By capturing expected states and behaviour in test assertions and code to satisty them initially, you will come up with good,testable and efficient design which is already verified to work and immune to unexpected bugs with changes in future.

Never, ever write comments for your code. Your code should be readable by any developer without them. Instead prefer short functions and small classes that are only responsible for single thing, descriptive function and variable names, replacing inheritance with composition, limit abstraction layers and last but not least dependency inversion just to mention a few practices.

Treat working on a complex algorithm as an agile project. Build in iterations. Start with something tangible but small, and then expand. Automated testing has helped me to gain confidence in the software when I transition between iterations.

Add frequent check ins with your stakeholders, share your progress , take in feedback. Frequent contact with stakeholders allows everyone to refine their vision, and learn about new insights uncovered as your development comes along.
